mayfair hotel: Lure Cafe Searcy AR and other old Searcy business places and people. - 11/06/11 11:20 AM

I just get so distracted.
I go on to the computer and plan to do some really important things and then WHAM!
I see some fascinating picture on my computer that I've saved from somewhere. Look what I ended up drooling over today.

It appears the then Governor was making an appearance and Searcy brought out the band and the majorettes and the brass. It also appears to be a rainy day. But what fascinates me the most is seeing the old Spring Street stores. Remember the Ideal Shop? Lure Cafe? Morris and Son?

mayfair hotel: Mayfair Hotel Searcy AR then and now - 01/26/09 07:12 AM

The old Mayfair Hotel in Searcy Arkansas was majestic. It was near a park that had healing spring water, a railroad dropped people off close-by and it was a popular hotel.

This old postcard shows how great it was. I drove by today and snapped a present day shot of it from the front and from the back. The back view shows how big it is and was. Trees have grown so big it is hard to get a shot of the entire front. Wouldn't you hate to have to go around this whole building painting those exposed rafters?

mayfair hotel: Mayfair Hotel in Searcy Arkansas White County - 07/20/08 06:23 PM

This old hotel is still in Searcy AR and still being lived in. I don't believe it is a hotel anymore but more of a permanent home for people and office space for businesses. It is within walking distance to our Spring Park, where people used to go for herbal water treatments.
We had a delightful "Yankee" who came in and bought it many years ago. He made himself a very fancy living area in the hotel. He became loved by everyone in the town despite his accent. When he sold it to someone else he had quite a few collectibles … (14 comments)
