remax agent: Bling? What is it and how'd you like an example of it? Searcy AR demonstration. - 07/16/11 09:52 AM
I had a real estate client who said his late wife liked "bling."
Say whut?  She liked bling?  The word is not in my 1953 Webster's Dictionary. So I went to Dictionary.com.
-noun 1. expensive and flashy jewelry clothing, or other possessions. 2. the flaunting of such possessions or the flashy lifestyle associated with it.
I still didn't really didn't understand "bling" until I saw this photograph.  Now I feel that I need to teach my Searcy Sleuths, who have been dozing lately (understandable because of the heat) a little about bling.
So see if you can discover, Sleuths, what is the anomaly in this picture?

remax agent: There's no hair on these tomatoes! Golfer tomatoes! Success at last. - 08/11/10 09:36 PM
When I came home today I found this lovely bowl of tomatoes on the kitchen counter.  Not just strung out on the counter in any old syle but nicely rounded in this little bowl with the best sides forward!

In case anyone wants to go back and read about my husband's tomato farming, the blogs are listed in this blog.  They were pretty funny when I had to report on his bringing hair home from the barber shop to put around his tomato plants.  And about his !@#$% words aimed at the deer who sneaked into the yard and ate his tomatoes.

remax agent: North Spruce Street Searcy Arkansas seldom discussed but it musta had stories.... - 07/19/10 08:54 PM
This blog has traveled over Searcy and we've stopped at a lot of places but we have NOT been to this street.  This one has to have a lot of the old features left.  Look at the sidewalk and I see not one spot for the physically handicapped to be able to enter a business.

This street is probably basically unchanged but I haven't been here long enough to remember what used to be here.  Here's another shot.

The Underground Cafe has been operating here, successfully, for several years now but what was here a long time ago?  See … (15 comments)

remax agent: That spooky landline texting has happened again. - 01/10/10 02:37 PM
About a year ago I wrote about the experience of getting a text on my land line phone.  It was strange.  It didn't happen again until yesterday.
The phone was ringing and when I picked it up the message came through this way.
Robotic voice says with no expression, "Have a nice dinner.  I will call you tomorrow."   The robotic voice actually sounds almost threatening.  Why would someone call me and wish he a nice dinner unless it was going to be my last one?
I quickly hung up and started thinking.  And then I think I figured it out.  I'd … (21 comments)

remax agent: Oh, NO!! Honey, come quick! The little green light is on! Heat pump! - 01/08/10 11:10 AM

We love our heat pump.  It works great most of the time.  It is so economical and we were promised low bills by the electric company when we reluctantly installed one in the new house years ago.
It proved to be a good promise.  They did say, however, that heat pumps are not good in extremely cold weather.  Look where the temp gage is today!!!  We hardly ever see that needle so close to a zero!

Frightful.  We run around asking how people can stand cold weather like this ALL the time.
Another thing they pointed out is … (16 comments)

remax agent: Old First Christian Church in Searcy Arkansas. Now gone. - 10/04/08 08:02 AM

This old church was in Searcy Arkansas right across the street from the First Methodist Church facing Main Street at the corner of Main and Market.  I'm a fairly new resident of Searcy, having been here only 40 or so years but this one was still standing while I've lived here.  It's there no longer, however.
It was torn down a few years ago and First Methodist owns the land and has built a new building where this one was.  I believe the congregation has a newer church now on the edge of town.
The building … (7 comments)

remax agent: Self promotion real estate mailout from 1993. - 07/23/08 01:58 PM

While looking through my old junk, I found this self-promotion advertisement that I mailed out in 1993.  That is the year that I went to work for RE/MAX Advantage.  Well, the truth is my friends found it and showed it me.  They'd saved it because they liked it.
It really is irrelevant that when I began, curly hair styles were "in".  I wore a curly wig until I was sure I liked it and then had the frizzy perm.  I must say it was the easiest hairstyle that I ever had.  Interest rates did shoot up to 18% or above.  … (75 comments)

remax agent: Finding a residential rental property in Searcy Arkansas - 04/12/08 08:06 AM

We are pleased to have new people moving to Searcy.  Several families are being relocated to White County as gas wells are being built and all the jobs that go with gas production are filled.  Everyone is excited as we watch to see what happens in this previously quiet town.
At this point, Searcy has no central rental agency.  Other towns have places to go and have someone find you a rental.  Not Searcy.  The best we offer right now is a rental sheet with a list of what we have been told is available.  We offer it as a courtesy and … (6 comments)

remax agent: Choosing the Familiar according to the book Selling the Invisible - 04/01/08 10:33 AM

I'm reading through the book "Selling the Invisible" by Harry Beckwith that was sent to me by John K. Carpenter of Fayetteville Arkansas as a congratulatory gift for being a member of the RE/MAX 100% Club.  I'm over to page 89 on a  Chapter called " How Prospects Decide:  Choosing the Familiar."
He says, "The evidence suggests that it is better to be known badly than not to be known at all.  This is due to a human trait called attribute forgetting.  Let's say you hear something negative about a company.  As time passes you tend to forget that negative information--you forget … (12 comments)
