North Royalton Ohio's Flair Restaurant and Cafe Serves up Some Great Comfort Food!

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of dining at Flair Restaurant and Cafe in North Royalton Ohio. Although Flair's has been there for about 3 years, this was my first time there. We went on a Sunday afternoon and we all enjoyed a very nice dinner. My husband had the Hungarian goulash, and said it was quite good. His Mom made the best in the world so for him to say it was good is quite the compliment. My daughter had the chicken Parmesan which she loved, I had a delicious tuna salad sandwich and my friend Jill had broiled fish, spaetzle, and hash browns. Her fish was a little dry and they immediately took it away and brought her a piece much more to her liking.

Flair's is neat and clean inside and the service comes with a smile. Even though we came for lunch, the portions were dinner sized and we all took some home.

We took home some great desserts and they will even make a Hungarian Dobos Torte for you if you pre-order it. For those that do not know what that is, it's a delicious 9 layer cake ( very thin layers) frosted in between and on top with chocolate butter cream frosting, with a hard caramel glaze on top. If you have never tried this delicious torte, order one from Flair's for your next party. You will love it.

I have been a part of the Assumption Church choir since 1990. My husband joined in 1991 and our daughter Erin joined pretty much the day she was born. At the time I had Erin I was a co-director with my good friend Laura Salasek, so Erin was at every rehearsal and of course, every Mass. By the time she was 2 years old she could sing the entire Gloria!

To say that these friends of mine are like a second family to me and mine would be an understatement. This group of people will do just about anything to help out a fellow member. We have shared births, deaths, marriages, and grandchildren , joy and sorrow.

I don't direct anymore unless the director needs me to but that is rare. Our director David Bird started out as our accompanist and has been our director for 2 years. Last night we surprised him with a birthday cake for his 60th! We love him dearly and feel so blessed to have him as the director of music ministry at our parish.

We rehearsed first, of course, and had cake afterwards.

Here's a Song Every Teen and Tween Should Listen to...and Hear!

There is a Christian music radio station that I love to listen to called 95.5 the Fish. One of their promises is that you will never hear objectionable music on their station and it's true.

Lately one of my favorites is called "A More Beautiful You" by Jonny Diaz. In a day and age when teen boys and girls care so much about looks and getting the guy or girl, this is such a refreshing change.

Listen carefully to the words..they are so meaningful. Enjoy.

Buyers: When You Buy a Home You Should Trust Others To Help You But Trust Yourself the Most.

Trust. It is such a powerful word. Merriam Webster defines it as such: 1 a : to place confidence : depend <trust in God> <trust to luck> b : to be confident : hope

I think I speak for all agents when I say that it is our hope that you will be able to trust us to help you buy a home. We would also like to know that you can trust your lender, title rep, and home inspector. In short, everyone involved in the transaction.

But do not forget to trust yourself.

If your lender qualifies you for a loan of $200K, should you borrow that much? Only YOU can decide that. Based on recent events, perhaps as a buyer, you should ask more questions, really examine your comfort level (or lack thereof) with the monthly payment. If the little voice in your head is telling you it's too much, LISTEN to that voice. It's a good idea to spend a little less than the max. Then you can enjoy a dinner out or a vacation once a year.

If you have a home inspection that does not go well, (I'm talking major issues here) by all means, try to resolve it, but if the voice in your head is telling you to walk away, then do it, provided you have provisions in your contract to do so.

If an agent is trying to CONVINCE you to buy a home, ask yourself why? If an agent is not showing you homes in the areas you like and in a price range that is right for you, find a new agent. No one should be convincing you to buy a home or anything else.

Do you remember your Mom saying "I Don't care what so and so does. If they told you to jump off a cliff would you??

The above is what a lot of parents said to their kids when they thought their kids were being, shall we say, improperly influenced by a friend. My Mom's twist was a little different. She used to say, "I don't care what so and so does or says, I only care about what YOU do or say."

When I was a teen my Dad used to add, "I trust you, it's all the boys I don't trust":)

It would be nice to trust every person we ever met but sadly, we can't because it isn't realistic.

There is one person you can trust and that IS and should be YOURSELF, especially when it comes to one of the largest purchases of your lifetime. Listen to the voice in your head. It's there for a reason.

Brecksville Ohio's Heinen's Grocery Store

Some people hate to grocery shop but I don't mind it at all. In fact I have been so busy listing and selling that I barely have time to shop. My daughter attested to this during the summer by asking me "Mom, are you ever going to go grocery shopping again?"

The reason I don't mind grocery shopping is because of a wonderful store called Heinen's. It's located at 8383 Chippewa Rd in Brecksville, right around the corner from my office at ReMax Trinity.

The produce is fresh and often locally grown, the meat and seafood are fresh and reasonably priced, the bakery...well what can you say about a bakery...and great weekly specials.

But here is what impresses me the most. When you ask someone where an item is located, they walk you to the item! With a smile.

And that's another nice thing about Heinen's. Everyone greets you with a smile. When you get to the checkout, if you have an item that might leak, a rubber band goes around the container to prevent that. And then of course, there is the parcel pick up. Take a number and pull your car up so that your groceries can be placed in your trunk or back seat! Fantastic during the winter months!

If you have not shopped at Heinen's, make it a point to go there. You will enjoy the experience.

Last Monday, my husband and I both took the day off to celebrate my birthday. We decided to visit the PineTree Barn in Wooster Ohio. The Pinetree Barn is a 3 story shopping experience, with offerings from furniture to home decor to clothing, handbags, and jewelry. Inside the Barn is a lovely cafe where we, of course, had a delicious lunch (seafood stuffed crepes! Yummy!).

After lunch we took a stroll around the beautiful lake where I promptly convinced myself that I had to have a baker's rack that I saw in the store. So I went back in, paid for it, and they put me on the schedule for delivery today.

They called when they were about 10 minutes from my home. When I answered the door, the delivery man handed me a container with 2 muffins (they are known for their muffins) and 2 coffee mugs with "Pinetree Barn" on them. What a nice surprise. One of the mugs had a customer survey card in it which I will be sure to fill out and return.

The guys set up my baker's rack very carefully and were on their way. I was anxious to start arranging things on it so I started by cleaning the glass shelves. Once clean, I noticed a couple of significant scratches in 2 of the shelves. I immediately called and was directed to Katie. She could not have been more pleasant. She apologized for the scratched shelves and I did the same for not looking as closely as I should have. She then called the guys to see if they were still in the area and to ask them to come back here to pick up one of the shelves so she could order replacement shelves.

All done with a smile.

How much did her attitude matter? A TON. I highly recommend the Pinetree Barn for the unique shopping experience, the lovely cafe, and the wonderful people that work there.

What's Missing in This Newspaper Article?

Yesterday in the Cleveland Plain Dealer's real estate section on the front page was an article titled "Builders and Realtors Weather the Storm with Progressive and Innovative Practices".

I was intrigued by the word "innovative" and quickly read the article, sure that I wold find many references to a stronger on line presence and the use of social media to promote our business and innovations. But there was nothing about that. Nada. Zip.

There was mention of:

*market research to determine what buyers are looking for

*adjustments to products and pricing

*green home tour

*use of stagers

*return phone calls promptly

*educating consumers and business associates

All of the above ideas are great, but are they really progressive and innovative? (green home excepted).

Call me crazy but the title did not appear to match the content. And what good is all the above for a company or agent if the public doesn't know you do it or have it?

On Turning Fifty and My Wonderful Surpise Party!

My husband and my best friend's husband pulled it off...with a little help from our kids and our friends! Yesterday I turned 50 and on Saturday night I was given a surprise party that also included my best friend Laura. I have known Laura for 35 years now and I can't imagine a better best friend.

The party was fantastic and filled with the usual...jokes about memory loss, hot flashes, sagging body parts, poor eyesight, etc.... but all in good fun. I received some lovely gifts, the food was fantastic and the night flew by.

Reflecting on the party the next day I came away with this:

50 is just a number (most days I still feel like I am in my 30's)

Money cannot buy happiness

The safest place in the world to me is in my husband's arms

I would give all I have to protect my daughter and husband from harm

Good health of mind, body, and spirit is priceless

A blessing is the fact that this year I celebrated my 25th wedding anniversary and my 50th birthday with my wonderful parents by my side. (My Mom, 86 and my Dad 85 both did jello shots at my party!)
