remax: Enjoy the Fire Pit in Your Back Yard but Be Careful to Abide byThe City Ordinance - 05/19/09 07:46 AM
Several years ago when we built our home, we had the landscaper put in a nice area in the back yard for a jungle gym for our daughter. It measures about 10 x 14 and is enclosed with railroad ties and tons of gravel. She outgrew the gym a few years ago so I wanted to do away with the whole area, fill it in and reseed the lawn. Then I got some quotes and found that it was pretty expensive.I mentioned it to my sister in law and she suggested we put a fire pit in the middle of the (8 comments)
remax: Call 811 Before you Dig! - 04/30/09 07:29 AM
Our mayor's secretary in Broadview Heights, Ohio sends us regular e-mail messages from the mayor's office to keep us informed about the city. Yesterday we received a brief reminder to remember to call 811 before we or our contractor do any digging on our property. I had not heard of this before so I did a little research. In the Pipeline Safety Improvement Act of 2002, Congress mandated the establishment of a national 3 digit number. In 2005 the FCC established 811 as the "National Call Before You Dig" phone number and all states were required to implement it by April 13, (7 comments)
remax: Cell Phone Etiquette..It's not Just for Realtors Anymore - 04/29/09 03:57 PM
A year or two ago when I was extremely busy and my phone was ringing off the hook, I found myself answering it all the time, at the expense of my family, friends and other clients. As I recall, it was during a casual conversation with another agent who told me that she never answers her phone while with a client that I made a vow to do the same. Now I must say that I rarely picked up the phone during a listing appointment but I did answer a lot while with buyer/clients. I say rarely on a listing appointment because I (17 comments)

remax: Answers to Questions Buyers STILL Ask! - 04/27/09 09:11 AM
I think sometimes as agents we just assume that our buyers "know the drill" when it comes to shopping for homes and working with a realtor. But we have to remember that new buyers are constantly entering the market and will likely ask the same questions time and time again. Here are some of the questions buyer still ask."This home is not listed with your company. Do I have to call them or the listing agent to see it?"No!!! I can show you any home that is listed even if it is not with ReMax. The exception to this is if the (14 comments)
remax: Cuyahoga County Ohio Real Estate Taxes Will Likely Decrease! Is it a Good Thing or a Bad Thing? - 04/23/09 06:19 AM
In an article written 4/22/09 by Laura Johnston, a Plain Dealer Reporter, it was stated the property taxes in Cuyahoga County will likely decrease....yes, that is decrease! In all my adult home ownership days I cannot remember a time when my property taxes went down so this will be very interesting if it comes to pass. The statement came from Cuyahoga County auditor Frank Russo, and while he said that the taxes won't plummet, they will drop as much as 8% across the county. Neither the state nor the city would divulge all city estimates, although Russo divulged two: Inner ring (13 comments)

remax: A Different Kind Of Easter Egg. - 04/21/09 08:18 AM
I meant to post this in time for Easter but I just ran out of time. My Mom, who is now 86, grew up in Yugoslavia. There was no such thing as an Easter egg coloring kit so they had to be creative. Now I really don't know where this method of coloring eggs originated but this is how my Mom and her family did it.When you boil the eggs, add onion peels to the water, the deepest, brownest ones you can find. I usually begin saving my peels about one month before Easter. Boil for the normal amount of time (12 comments)

remax: Stay Informed About Gas/Oil Wells on Your Property in Ohio - 04/16/09 08:22 AM
A few weeks ago I wrote a post called The Gas Man Cometh...To Drill For Oil/Gas on Your Land. The focus of the article was that control over these wells in Ohio is largely at the state level. In an article written by Amanda Garrett, she tells of a new advocacy group, NEOGAP (Northeast Gas and Accountability Project) calling for stricter regulation of Ohio's gas/oil well industry, but more importantly, their goals include "returning the regulation of gas wells to municipalities, improving health and safety regulations for the drilling industry, serving as an advocate for those affected by gas wells and (2 comments)
Building a new home can be very exciting, but also scary. Having sold new construction in Brecksville, Broadview Heights, and Independence Ohio for 10 years, I can offer some tips if you think a brand new home is in your future. A new construction contract is vastly different from a contract for an existing home. Read it, read it again and then read it one more time. Here are some clauses you might encounter If the builder is unable to obtain the exact materials as specified on the plan, he may substitute materials of a similar design and quality. (6 comments)

remax: So Sweet to Hear My Daughter Sing! - 04/13/09 09:51 AM
Some of you know that my daughter Erin loves music and is a gifted flautist and singer. We recently went to Chicago to watch her perform with the show choir and jazz from her high school, Walsh Jesuit, in Cuyahoga Falls Ohio, and had a great time! When I was in college at Cleveland State University, and majoring in music I sang a song called "The Crucifixion" by Samuel Barber. I loved it instantly but never heard it again after that. A few months ago, Erin came home from her voice lesson and said "Mom I'm working on a new song (4 comments)
remax: Spring Fresh But Tried and True Ideas for Changing Times - 04/12/09 11:50 AM
Lots of different thoughts enter my mind as I read the title "Spring Cleaning and Fresh Ideas for Changing Times" and it strikes me that maybe what we need to do is to embrace some of the not so fresh ideas. Don't get me wrong, fresh ideas are great and change is good, it's vital, in fact, to our personal and professional growth. But is it possible, that old ideas are the best way to handle changing times? If we are very lucky in this life, we live in good health with people we love and awake each spring to the (24 comments)

remax: Is It a Good Idea To List or Sell a Home That is Outside of Your Usual Market? - 04/08/09 09:44 AM
Most real estate agents pride themselves on being experts in their communities. They know where the great places are to shop, dine, or play golf. They know where the churches and schools are located, along with car repair shops, bakeries, grocery stores, theaters, hair salons, and florists. They also know if there are school levies coming up, or where there are landfills or high tension wires, which may be a concern to a buyer, they know if there are gas or oil wells being drilled, and whether or not employees in the city have to pay a city income tax. They know (25 comments)
