WOW! What a fabulous display of beauty, steel, engineering and architectural design we saw on those unbelievable buildings on Beijing - China - for the 2008 Olympics!...

  • "The Bird's Nest" - The architects are the Swiss Pritzker Prize winners: Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron, and has the whimsy of a super-colossal Claes Oldenburg sculptures placed all around the stadium.

Starting from now , this will be the most recognizable stadium on earth and one of the most celebrated piece of architecture.

The stadium exterior shell is a helter steel web - a mega proportion of architectural indulgence and engineering stoke of genius... The breathtaking design of the steel rib-bones wrapper erecting into a dramatically parabolic shape of a bird nest.

What is astounding about the glamorous new Buildings in Beijing is just how brilliant and original they are...

It is only those excellent architects and engineers who's unbelievable stoke of geniality made all possible...

It is in many ways sad to see what is behind all the glamour and megalomaniac postures.

What Chinese wanted to inflict on the entire world's mind was the shock, intimidation, and supreme admiration for the unique power of their communist establishment... The economy is booming, the western European cars are increasingly visible on the street.... But this is China - the streets are still filled with peddlers walking among the slowed cars selling live turtles. The Cultural Revolution (of the personality-cult) remains, still visible a die-hard vestige.

In spite of the modernization and westernization life style, people of China are still very much as they always been - hard suppressed, brain washed, confused and lately super intimidated by the new face of a modern communism.

  • "The Egg" - The National Center for the Performing arts... Beijing's Lincoln Center... is designed by the French Architects Paul Andreu and is a perfect match for " The Bird's Nest"... What a brilliant concept to encompass the art performances with the perfection of Olympic sports.
What a leap of faith!... Only about 45 years ago I remember the victims who paid a very heavy price in the name of "Cultural Revolution"... They cut off the left hand fingers of one of they most brilliant pianist Lee Mean Chan... Executing a world classic music was a crime against the state!

But never the less still behind the shining China's world class architectural buildings, economical and cultural rebirth there are millions upon millions of people who have about the same life they always had....

But these days It's all about the Olympics and the excellence in sportsmanship

I dedicate this post to my daughter - Arina Hanciulescu - who asked me to write about it... She would of loved to post it and I do it for her.

The Transbay Transit Center & Tower, the tallest of the towers in the development

Transbay Transit Center in San Francisco. The terminal is part of a $983 million project that also includes demolition of the current terminal and running a temporary terminal. Transbay officials hope to open the new terminal by 2014.
Transbay Transit Center aspires to become one of San Francisco’s great civic places. Its architecture is open, full of light and clean air, and environmentally sustainable - a futuristic quarter-mile-long structure that would extend above First and Fremont streets and would be topped by a 5.4-acre park.
transforming the roof of the Transit Center into a public park. The park also actively improves the environment around the Transit Center, absorbing pollution from bus exhaust, treating and recycling water, and providing a habitat for local wildlife. Sustainability is at the heart of our proposal.

Robert Redford's passion for Northern California's green movement infuses the Sundance Channel's Blog ideas for a Small Planet.

" I have been frustrated and angry, and then I say, wait a minute! There's enough pessimism out there... For me the best reason to be optimistic is: Why not? Why not have hope? Putting hope into action is what the Sundance Channel is all about."... Robert Redford

How To: Brush Fireproof Your Home

Anticipating problems is always the best way to avoid them. The home here below was designed to prevent the brush fire  from its full destructive potential.

You never know when a brush fire will start. All it takes is a spark, a little oxygen, something to burn, and a fraction of a second in which you're not paying attention. If you take the right preventive measures to protect your home, you can significantly reduce the risks.

With that in mind I designed a house "Brush Fireproof " providing basic measures to protect and eliminate the risk of having the home consumed by fire... If you follow the tips below, you'll have a better chance of not just surviving a fire brush, but avoiding one altogether.

  • Water pools on 3 sides to function as fire barrier when needed.

  • The Exterior Elevations covered in stone.

  • The openings (windows, doors...) provided with temperature sensor and automatic closing fire proof panels.

  • Fire sprinklers system in top of all openings and house perimeter. Also a sprinkler system for handrails and stairs.

  • The house is equipped with a 6000 gal. water tank

  • The house is designed with 3 exits on 3 sides of the building for easy evacuation.

How difficult is the property purchase process in Romania?
Land cannot be bought by foreign nationals, but only by Romanian individuals, and by legal entities, which however includes companies with foreign participation. However with Romania's accession to the EU in 2007, foreigners will be allowed to purchase land (in 2007). As of now, foreign ownership is only possible (outside of legal entities) through legal inheritance. On the other hand, there are no legal restrictions on foreign ownership of buildings.
  1. Before selling, the seller must present a "certificat fiscal" (fiscal certificate) to attest that the property has been registered with the fiscal authorities ("Circa Financiara"), and that all taxes due are paid. The seller is also expected to present a certificate ("certificat de sarcini") attesting that the property is free from mortgages and other legal encumbrances and that the property does in fact belong to the present owner.
  2. The notary then draws up a deed of sale ("drept de proprietate").
  3. The notarization of sale and transfer agreement regarding ownership of land is compulsory to make the transaction valid.
  4. The transfer should be then recorded in the Land Register/ Real Estate Register.
Registration of property in Romania requires eight procedures and takes 170 days to complete.
