change: time for a change - 02/08/16 11:36 AM
When’s the last time you heard: It’s “time for a change?” The second you heard those 4 words, you knew what they were about . . . The loud and clear message was “out with the old and in with the new.”
You’re FIRED!
Change is always and everywhere.
Change can be good, bad, ugly, magnificent.
Football coaches hear those words after 3 losses in a row.
REALTORS might hear them after 90 days on the market.
Here’s something that is true for everyone who hears these words whether they want to admit it or not . . . they knew … (9 comments)

change: Where Did the BLUE Arrow go? - 11/21/13 06:50 AM
My trusty smartphone croaked on Saturday. I went through all of the emotional levels – grief, denial, anger, rage, resignation, despondency, and unrealistic hope that it would just come back to life if I fiddled with the battery and power cord enough.
Alas!
NO!
DEAD!
So . . . Monday morning, I decided i would give it 24 hours to come out of its coma before committing to find a replacement.
Nogo!
Tuesday morning, I gave up and began shopping on-line and decided to get the Samsung galaxy siii . . . made an appointment (in my mind) to go mid-day … (0 comments)

change: Setting up a printer isn’t what it used to be . . . - 08/01/13 09:20 AM
About a month ago, I decided it was time to supplement (Not ready to replace) my HP 5P Laser Printer (Manufactured October 1996) with a printer that could go faster.
Man . . . I LOVE that HP5P . . . For nearly 17 years, it has cranked out crisp black and white documents with virtually ZERO jams at an unbelievably low cost. I figure I’ve been getting @ 3,000 pages per toner cartridge, and the cartridges cost a paltry $18 from Amazon.com. For as long as this printer lives (and I can buy the cartridges), I’ll keep on using … (1 comments)

change: Because it’s our POLICY! - 04/27/13 12:32 AM
I witnessed a phenomenal, enigmatic, problem-solving attempt that ultimately failed miserably because of “Policy.”
Without going into boring details, this “training organization” is facing a shift in the demand of the services/classes they offer and were trying to “fix” this problem . . . their customers weren’t showing up anymore.
30 minutes into the meeting, I realized that 100% of the proposed “solutions” had to do with the goal of changing the behavior of the customers through more creative marketing . . . an attempt to cajole the customers to accept the very services they were abandoning. A hammer looking … (5 comments)

change: A whole new set of skills - 02/08/13 09:57 AM
Just about the time you think you’ve got the hang of it, something changes.
The market swings to the bottom . . . then sits at the bottom for a while . . . and then races wildly to the top.
It shifts . . . ALWAYS!
In fact, EVERYTHING shifts . . . ALWAYS!
So . . . If you’re in search of “Stability,” move to a self-sustaining farm compound.
The rest of the world will continue this fantastic practice of honing their skills to adapt their lives appropriately to survive (and thrive) in the NEW environment they find … (1 comments)

change: Is the grass always greener? - 11/16/12 05:28 AM
Many times people make changes because they don’t like something about “NOW.”
Some change because they are “just ramblers”
Some do it by choice . . . others by necessity.
Because “Life Happens” . . . or isn’t happening as expected.
At some point in any change, this “Grass is greener on the other side” comes into play. Why would ANYONE go through the agony of changing (departing the “comfort zone”) unless the other side of the change is better than before?
The average person abhors change enough that things have to get VERY toxic to cause them to take … (5 comments)

Comfort zones are comfortable, aren’t they?
No! Really!
Folks could argue: “Why rock the boat if everything is cruising along with relative ease and enjoyment?”
I believe there’s a fine line here, over which the comfort zone lulls the patient (us) into a delusional false sense of security . . . and we practice the fine art of complacency and denial.
The real issue I have with this comfort zone idea is that those folks who stay “in there” tend to start believing:
There’s only ONE “Right” way Non-believers are idiots Our belief system is in a vacuum and has immunity to outside forces … (0 comments)

change: Pulling the Trigger of Change #in - 07/07/11 12:50 AM
Posted on July 7, 2011 by Barry Owen
The wistful comment: “I just wish everything could stay the same” is commonly the first response when reality begins setting in that change is in order (coming soon).
The tragic news is that “Everything is Moving” (ALWAYS) and that this world is and always has been in a state of transformation. We cannot seal ourselves from “external spanners” . . . Regardless of our efforts to seal our lives in a vacuum, the truth remains: Stuff happens!
We can train ourselves to deal with change in 2 ways:
Intentionally live life embracing change with enthusiasm … (2 comments)

change: How "Invested" are you in your choice of Technology? #in - 04/17/11 04:22 AM
Posted on April 17, 2011 by Barry Owen
How much "stuff" do you have "out there" on the internet?
Every day, you log in to a variety of programs and generally find things just as they were when you went to sleep the night before.
What would happen in your world if you were to wake up one morning and your log-in didn't work . . . and you were greeted by a message that says your access is denied because of "whole system failure"?
Most of us don't think of things like this. We take it for granted that it'll … (8 comments)

change: Monday Morning Coffee - Caught up in y'self! #in - 04/11/11 12:33 AM
Posted on April 11, 2011 by Barry Owen
Good Morning!
This past weekend had this recurring theme:
"It ain't ALL about YOU!"
Now! I guess anyone could take that statement and go any number of directions. (Could apply to everyone)
I could be talking to the egotists in the crowd who are all about themselves and regularly practice their "Bull in the China shop" routine bullying folks and taking all the credit for anything that goes right (and denying having anything to do with anything that doesn't).
or
I could be talking to the poor little victims out there who are … (3 comments)

change: Monday Morning Coffee - Your Technology Line in the sand #in - 04/04/11 03:49 AM
Posted on April 4, 2011 by Barry Owen
Where do you draw YOUR line in the sand with respect to technology?
Were you completely affronted by the recent switch of TV signals from Analog to Digital? I know that shift in technology rocked a LOT of people's worlds because it required attaching a new gizmo to the TV and losing the "rabbit ears" . . . and if you wanted to continue to watch TV, you had no choice but to adapt.
There are other technological advances that are "less mandatory" meaning they are there, but you can (almost) continue living your … (2 comments)

Omega - Endings give rise to new beginnings
Posted on November 23, 2010 by Barry Owen
"Omega (the last letter of the Greek alphabet) is often used to denote the last, the end, or the ultimate limit of a set" (Wiki)
When it's over, It's over!
Time to let go and give rise to something new.
Most all of us don't do well with change. We lament the death (end) of - well - ANYTHING . . . even sometimes when that ending is for the good.
It's the cycle of life - Ending is painful . . . birth is painful … (0 comments)

Happy Thanksgiving to YOU!
I love Thanksgiving week because (for me) it begins my annual ritual of "taking stock" of my accomplishments throughout the year.
Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks for the bounty of the Fall Harvest which comes as a result of the efforts throughout the year.
My life rhythm includes taking some time each weekend to think about the coming week, check the scheduled appointments, and prioritize the activities for the week. My goal is to optimize my effectiveness throughout the week.
On Thanksgiving week, there are only 2 … (1 comments)

There's a lot of change going on out here!
Posted on October 7, 2010 by Barry Owen
So!
What else is new?
If things weren't changing, we'd be bored, stagnant . . . dead.
Not all of us like change.
Fall is one of those seasons that I notice a substantially variable opinion of change . . . Some folks LOVE the cooler weather and relish the notion that snow may come this year (in Middle TN, snow in the winter is not a given) . . . Others bemoan the absence of the Summer heat.
Good thing we're all different.

change: The "I'm glad I did . . ." instead of "I wish I had . . ." manifesto! #in - 03/02/10 10:35 PM
As we all journey through life, we sometimes think about where we are going and what we are doing in relation to our inner Passion.
The true challenge in our human existence is one of our "management" of our willpower. The truth is that willpower is a resource - an energy that gets used up through the day and wanes in power if not exercised regularly.
Passion and desire are cool and necessary. They create the BIG WHY for each of us.
This BIG WHY is the target, the reason for paying attention to our appropriate application of willpower.
Effectively used, Willpower … (2 comments)

change: You REALLY know who your REAL friends and family are when . . . #in - 02/28/10 10:24 PM
Change happens!
Now what?
Who's there supporting you not by doing things FOR you but by BEING there with you?
Who seeks to understand and participates in creating new directions?
Who "has your back"?
Who stays on the high road with you without reservation and without passing judgement?
Who understands your suddenly magnified need for FOCUS and attending to the things that MATTER?
Who understands the "anywhen Manifesto" (Click the link) and takes it to heart?

change: Change is "ending and new beginning" - 11/15/09 11:15 PM
There are only a few things in this world we can all really expect to be able to count on - Death, Taxes, & CHANGE!
These are all equally inevitable and unavoidable, yet many people exert vast amounts of energy evading them.
I "get" the motivation to "cheat Death" . . . That's one cause I'll join without much thought . . . So I try to watch what foods and drink I consume and am careful while driving and how Ilive my life . . . I don't feel ready for that "Ultimate Change" because I think I have a … (0 comments)

change: Riviving "Real Estate Dead Spots" in your market. - 11/03/09 10:02 PM
Whether the economy is rolling along swimmingly or bucking like an angry Bull, some areas in your community always seem to "perform" better than others.
Values hold relatively steady and sales continue to  happen.
These are the areas in which folks want to work and live especially when times get tough.
What of the other, less fortunate areas of your town?
Some "fickle" pockets were doing quite well in the good times, and screeched to a sudden HALT with the market shift . . . while other "Problem" areas just never seem to gain much traction in any economic environment.

change: Are you ready for CHANGE? - 05/10/09 11:58 PM
Again and again and again and again and again . . .
Perpetual Transformation . . .
Everything's in a state of perpetual change - ALWAYS!
Sure, there are moments of "Normalcy". Times when everything is flowing as it should are magical . . .
and hypnotic . . .
Don't let those moments lull you into a false sense of security/complacency, because CHANGE is just around the bend.
Most folks don't like change.
Ask anyone what they would like more of in their lives, and you'll hear of a wish for "Stability" from the mass of men.
Yet, the environment … (4 comments)
