monday morning coffee: Monday Morning Coffee – Does the Pace ALWAYS have to be Frenetic? - 08/25/14 01:29 AM
Busyness can be intoxicating. In our high tech and increasingly raplex world, Frenetic Action seems to be the goal.
If you’re not moving at the speed of light, you’re dull and boring and perceived to be less successful?
Why is there this “need” to be exciting and dramatic all 24/7/365?
Is life less worthwhile and fulfilling if you’re traveling below your top speed?
Oh, I do get it!
The faster and more intense we go, we think the higher the likelihood that we’ll “BREAK THROUGH” to some sort of GREATNESS that we would not otherwise achieve. Those BREAKTHROUGH moments are exhilarating when … (1 comments)

monday morning coffee: Monday Morning Coffee – Thanksgiving! - 11/18/12 02:09 AM
Any way you look at it, we’ve all got a LOT to be Thankful for.
Family
Friends
Health
Safety
Security
Pets
The Weather
Our jobs
Our STUFF
Financial position
Our talents
Of course, not everyone reading this has had “fulfillment” in all of the above this year.
We have each experienced ups and downs in virtually every one of these facets.
The good news is that we are still above the surface (Better than being 6 foot under) and have weathered all of the storms we have faced in the past year . . . this week is the week … (0 comments)

monday morning coffee: Monday Morning Coffee – The intersection of Rhetoric and best practices - 11/11/12 07:04 AM
Back in the days of school as I plowed through homework doing math problem after math problem, diagramming sentences in English class, learning a dead language (Latin), learning scientific formulas and elements and physics . . . and then in college the BORING and nonsensical economics classes and world lit and calculus . . . This list could go on . . .
I often asked myself the questions:
“What’s the point?”
“When will I EVER use ANY of this in the REAL WORLD?”
The truth is . . . I DON”T use much of any of it out here … (0 comments)

monday morning coffee: Monday Morning Coffee – When Conflict Arises - 10/28/12 09:36 AM
  Most folks don’t enjoy conflict.
Those who appear to thrive on it, (I think) are magicians practicing “slight of emotion” tricks on themselves and others . . . while those who ostensibly don’t like conflict practice evasion tactics . . . even to the extent that they may be willing to walk away from a fantastic opportunity or relationship just because they don’t want to “engage.”
Conflict has a bad rap. It actually offers HUGE benefit as those in conflict can LEARN from each other and Mature and GROW.
They may even rise to the conflict and find themselves reaching … (1 comments)

monday morning coffee: Monday Morning Coffee – Success Away from Home #in - 07/09/12 04:31 AM
The further a consultant goes from Home, the more success she finds.
“A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and among his own kin and in his own house,” Mark 6:1-6
Regardless of “Super-STAR” status in the eye of the public, said “Super-Star” is still “that little trouble-maker” to friends and family.
Just ask virtually ANYONE who is starting a new career . . . Those people closest to them can be the most difficult to convert as clients.
Why?
This is counter-intuitive. One would think that the people closest to home would be the ones … (2 comments)

monday morning coffee: Monday Morning Coffee – The Little Things #in - 06/17/12 11:44 PM
When people say “Don’t sweat the small stuff!“, they’re generally referencing obsessive compulsive distraction by pesky issues . . . When something someone says rubs you the wrong way or has a quirk or mannerism that bugs you, and you allow it to consume your attention to the point at which you lose focus on things that REALLY matter.
Then . . . there are “The Little Things” that show up out of the blue . . .
An unexpected hug A “Thinking about you” call A hand-written note A Cold drink offered on a HOT day Taking time to … (2 comments)

monday morning coffee: Monday Morning Coffee – Same Ball – Different game #in - 06/10/12 10:28 PM
  It’s a soccer ball.
The Players appear to be the same as in “normal” FutBol with cleats and shin guards and colorful jerseys.
The field has 2 goals with goal boxes, boundary and center lines.
But something’s different . . . EVERYTHING is smaller.
The field, the goals, the number of players (3 per team – no goalie), and the time (24 minute games) . . . all shrunk from normal.
AND . . . everything is FASTER!
What worked in “normal” games of soccer is irrelevant on these fields.
Strategies must be different.
Shooting on goal happens frequently from long range … (1 comments)

monday morning coffee: Monday Morning Coffee – Networking IS for everyone #in - 05/14/12 01:40 AM
That word “Networking” sends chills up most people’s spines.
Visions of slique, hungry business people gathering in a beehive of activity for the sole purpose of getting LEADS swirl through the heads of most folks as they consider whether to be or not to be a networker.
The irony is that everyone already IS a “Networker” . . . even YOU!
It’s just that some take it up a few notches to a level that’s out of the comfort zone of others.
Wiki says: “Business networking is a socioeconomic activity by which groups of like-minded businesspeople recognize, create, or act upon business opportunities.”
There are … (2 comments)

monday morning coffee: Monday Morning Coffee – The Power of Positive Thinking #in - 05/07/12 12:07 AM
  Good Monday Morning!
This morning, I have several “Guest Writers”
Would you like to win the LOTTERY and become an INSTANT MILLIONAIRE?
Will the power of positive thinking make this happen for you?
I don’t think anyone really knows – Maybe yes – Maybe no . . .
But we ALL know that you’ll NEVER win the lottery unless you take that first step of “Appropriate Action” . . . BUY A TICKET!
Folks say: “What you THINK . . . EXPANDS!” . . . and they’re right (as long as you support your thought with Focused and INTENTIONAL ACTION).
It’s … (2 comments)

monday morning coffee: Monday Morning Coffee – The Right Time to . . . #in - 04/15/12 11:49 PM
“Potential” is ALWAYS sitting on the sidelines eagerly awaiting that call to show itself.
Whether it be the potential performance of an athlete . . . or potential success of a Business . . . or potential derived from new relationships . . . or potential for every person on this planet to accomplish great things.
So . . .
Why do some folks realize more of their potential than others?
We can all see it.
We all know it’s there.
We see it within self – and others – and circumstances . . .
Potential becomes reality when the … (0 comments)

monday morning coffee: Monday Morning Coffee – HOPE #in - 04/08/12 11:37 PM
Easter Sunday mass was PACKED at our church (and I imagine also at most other churches). Religious holidays tend to bring worshipers into the church who practice “Holiday Attendance” instead of weekly. This, in no way, implies some are “more worthy’ than others . . . It just is the 80/20 Principle
I judge not as I am occasionally guilty as charged.
I’m glad we attended Mass yesterday. The message in the Homily was one of HOPE and LIGHT, and I came away with a very warm energy.
HOPE is what carries us through thick and thin, prosperity and adversity, … (0 comments)

monday morning coffee: Monday Morning Coffee – 4G Basketball . . . a microcosm of real life? #in - 03/05/12 12:03 AM
“4G Basketball” is the league name for “4th grade girls”
Our team The HORNETS consists of 8 current (and 1 former) students with BIG Hearts of Julia Green Elementary.
With multiple years of Coaching, co-coaching, assistant coaching, & parenting 2 daughters & 1 son-players through Spring and summer soccer and Winter Basketball, Debbie and I have seen the full gambit of teams and talent.
Each team has its own dynamic personality . . . and each season offers a micro-slice of “Real Life” . . . complete with the highest of highs, disappointments and frustrations, and plenty of reasons to celebrate at the end.

monday morning coffee: Monday Morning Coffee – What d’ya know? #in - 02/26/12 11:01 PM
Comfort zones are comfortable, aren’t they?
No! Really!
Folks could argue: “Why rock the boat if everything is cruising along with relative ease and enjoyment?”
I believe there’s a fine line here, over which the comfort zone lulls the patient (us) into a delusional false sense of security . . . and we practice the fine art of complacency and denial.
The real issue I have with this comfort zone idea is that those folks who stay “in there” tend to start believing:
There’s only ONE “Right” way Non-believers are idiots Our belief system is in a vacuum and has immunity to outside forces … (0 comments)

monday morning coffee: Monday Morning Coffee – So many moving parts #in - 02/20/12 01:31 AM
  Well!
We humans have done it . . . We’re all BUSY!
We’ve finally been able to create enough moving parts and complexity we can go virtually anywhere in the world and never leave the office.
We got what we asked for – “Life in the fast lane”
As we add more moving parts, are we enhancing our lives?
Is each day more fulfilling than the day before?
Some want to simplify.
Many People and Organizations are turning off some of the complexity and seeking ways to replace it withhuman touch and focus on LOCAL.
In my industry (Real Estate Sales), … (1 comments)

monday morning coffee: Monday Morning Coffee – More days to be Thankful #in - 02/12/12 11:39 PM
If you’re reading this message, you have many people for whom to be thankful.
The planets have aligned, synchronicity has occurred, and EXACTLY the right people have come along at the right times . . . The right things have happened . . . and it all started at the right time (on the day of your birth) . . . Culminating into THIS moment – NOW – HERE!
So . . . Don’t wait any longer to “See your life pass in front of your eyes” (That oft heard saying when faced with a life threatening happening). Do this intentionally and be … (4 comments)

monday morning coffee: Monday Morning Coffee – Invite! Ask WHY? Honor the end! #in - 02/06/12 02:32 AM
  Good Monday Morning!
Beware!
I awakened this morning with an urge to wax philosophic here this morning . . .
Why?
ummm . . . Probably a dose of “Self-inflicted Therapy” as a reminder of the simplicity of life flow/RHYTHM when we sustain proper perspective.
As we all tumble through life and time, we initiate and respond to myriad INVITATIONS.
We invite other folks to join us as Friends, Work Associates, colleagues . . . “Partners in crime” . . . We know that much of our success and fulfillment comes through other people who show up and travel with us as … (0 comments)

monday morning coffee: Monday Morning Coffee – Going Old School #in - 01/29/12 11:15 PM
Good Morning! Everything is moving – Transforming – Morphing . . . ALWAYS.
Just about the time we think we’ve “GOT IT” and can relax . . .
The dust settles, and we “hit a stride” . . .
Find a great routine that brings nice results and fulfillment . . .
then . . . SOMETHING CHANGES and upsets our apple cart.
Seth Godin wrote When the World changes . . .  ”It’s painful, expensive, time-consuming, stressful and ultimately pointless to work overtime to preserve your dying business model.”
AS technology (Internet) spooled up, “Old School” ways of doing business died by the bushel. … (0 comments)

monday morning coffee: Monday Morning Coffee – 60 – 360 – 86400 – 604,800 – 2,419,200 – 31,556.926 #in - 11/14/11 02:21 AM
  60 Seconds in a minute
360 Seconds in an Hour
86,400 Seconds in a day
604,800 Seconds in a Week
2,419,200 Seconds in a Month
31,556,926 Seconds in a Year
(For those who are checking my math, The “year” figure doesn’t mesh exactly – It’s the “actual”)
What in this world are you DOING with all of these seconds?
It’s true that we all have the same number seconds available to us . . .
as long as we are living, this is true!
We invented time (It IS a Human invention) . . . and because we (most of … (0 comments)

monday morning coffee: Monday Morning Coffee – Being more productive by doing less . . . #in - 10/31/11 07:53 AM
  HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
“They” say: “Less is MORE!”
I believe this more every day in this new economy.
Doing one less thing can simplify things.
Makes more room for more important things . . .
This works just as well on MACRO scales as does on micro scales.
The Pareto Principle – 20/80 Principle (Pareto Realty’s namesake) gives us some language for this phenomenon. In virtually all things there a disproportionate ratio of results (productivity) from the field of “Performers.”
20% of the performers yield 80% of the results . . . The Vital Few!
80% of the performers yield 20% of the … (0 comments)

monday morning coffee: Monday Morning Coffee – Personal “Board of Directors” #in - 10/17/11 12:50 AM

Good morning!
Do you have a “Personal Advisory Board of Directors?
I’m not talking about a staunch group of stiff-shirts who have full authority over your every move and/or decision . . .
I’m talking about a group of people you know and trust, all of whom you KNOW will ALWAYS tell you the truth.
These are the people in your life who will pause their lives to spend some time listening when you need advice . . . and will respond with candid, provocative questions.
I’d venture to say that most people do not have an “official Personal Board … (2 comments)
