"Changing the Conversation About Real Estate" Still One of the Most Important Investments Any Family can Make - 08/31/10 12:01 PM
I work out of the Stark Middletonoffice, and I feel compelled to share this blog entry from Dave Stark, President of the Stark Company in the Greater Madison Wisconsin area. I sincerely wish his remarks would be picked up by the national media instead of so much of the negativity we see. Dave has presented a very realistic picture of the status quo. Of course this picture does vary from market to market. Yes it hurts! A lot! If you bought when the market was at it's peak and now your home value has plummeted. But I tell my clients that we could

What In the Sand Hill? In an Industrial Park in Middleton WI? - 08/31/10 12:37 AM
Just a regular ol' Friday in Middleton, Wisconsin, driving through the industrial park, near the Madison Marriott West and Greenway Station, an upscale shopping area, turning left on Holiday Ave, and then making a right onto Deming Way, and what do my eyes behold? Three Sand Hill cranes just standing about on the lawn, looking very stately. These are such handsome peaceful creatures. What they are doing there, I do not know. And migration in this area does not happen till the end of September. A missed photo opportunity! This is what I should have been doing. But

How to Nibble on Some Dragon - 08/31/10 12:08 AM
Driving back from the office today and stopping at my local Copps Supermarket on Century Ave in Middleton: just to be healthy, I enter in the produce section door. (Another choice is entering in close proximity of the liquor and ice cream section-not as healthy.) This is the first thing I see tucked on a shelf under the nectarines. Dragon fruit! That one on the left looks like it could start start breathing fire! I am no wimp when it comes to trying new foods or dining in ethnic restaurants of nearly any type. But I have never seen nor heard of this and

Woo Hoo! I Did It! - 08/29/10 03:27 PM
What do you do when you have accomplished something great? What do you do when you've made that big sale? Finished a big project when everyone else had doubts except you? Or you did have doubts but you forged ahead anyway against all odds? Do you jump for joy? Just smile and move on? Simply cross it off the list and re-prioritize? Figure out what you did right? Pop the cork? I worked in a sales office in Rhode Island and we rang a big bell when someone made a sale. A good friend plays a crazy song and dances

I Am Sure There's An App For That, But I Love My Qualifier II Mortgage Calculator - 08/29/10 08:56 AM
Call me old fashioned, but I just love my magic mortgage calculator, the Qualifier II. Sure, there is now a Qualifier III and beyond. I take out some buyers and excitedly, they ask, "Well, how much would my monthly payment be if I put $10,000 down?" "$15,000 down?" "$20,000?" "What if we put an offer on the yellow house? What would my payment be then?" I have the answers right at my fingertips. I do not have Apps. I am sure I will, after they work the bugs out! OK, so that is an excuse but I feel secure having my

Madison's Oldest Park and Marquette Neighborhood's Orton Park Festival - 08/28/10 11:45 PM
What an amazing weekend at Madison's oldest park: Orton Park's 45th annual festival is this weekend! What a crowd! So many amazing events and people watching that can't be beat. Beer tent, booths with beads, bandanas and free literature. The line was the longest at the Laotian Food stand for the squash curry but you could get everything from ice cream to crab Rangoon and fresh corn on the cob. The Marquette Neighborhood is as proud and connected and diverse a neighborhood as you will see. Where else can you celebrate everything from A-Z towhere the A stands for an Aerial act actually performed in

Capitalize on Your Strengths! Starring: My Grandson, Justin - 08/27/10 11:03 AM
When Justin was about 2 years old, we drew a simple picture of a fish on a piece of paper and gave him the pencil and showed him and told him how to draw it. It was incredible to see what he did! He concentrated and had his tongue sticking out of the corner of his mouth. It was a great drawing for a 2 year old! He was so excited by the drawing and of course it was highly re-enforced by his uncle and me. Here Here is Justin, at age 5, in front of his easel. He also loves cars

My Favorite "Boutique" for a Beautifully Staged Home: Shhhhh. It's Goodwill Industries - 08/25/10 08:24 AM
Staging. We all know what an impact a well staged home can make! It has been proven many times that your home can sell faster and for more money when you do it justice with good staging. Speaking of money, it does not have to cost you an arm, a leg, or your tonsils. Noooo. Look what I found tonight at Goodwill (see map and store locations for the Madison area) Framed prints! These were on average, $3.99 each. And very cheap baskets, to be filled with fruit, flowers, rubber duckies, you name it. Hand-blown glasses for $.69! Unbelievable! Sorry-these are gone

My Great Poodle Story - 08/21/10 10:52 PM
When my ex and I were divorced, the Real Estate Market was HOT. I was never home for dinner and my ex had an apartment which did not allow dogs. It dawned on us that we needed a new home for Bisbee. We had thought we would just have joint custody. We talked with groomers and friends and thought we could find him a new home ourselves. After three heartbreaking attempts, I realized we would have to take him to the Dane County Humane Society. Here is Bisbee For some reason that thought made me nervous. I was hesitant. We did

These Low Interest rates : Better Than the Tax Credit? - 08/20/10 11:12 PM
The $8,000 tax credit vs Super low Interest rates As valuable as the tax credit was for first time home buyers, today's incredibly low interest rates are even more exciting and a better deal over the long run. Buyers-why wait? Take a look at this example: Staying budget conscious here. let's say you want to keep your monthly payment just under $10000 per month on a 30 year mortgage and let's see what we can find for you. Monthly payment $998.57 at today's rate of 4.375%. $200,000 house Monthly payment $998.57 last year's rate of 5.735% $178,000 house That's a $22,000 difference, almost three times

Magical Marvelous Blueberry Pie - 08/15/10 05:21 PM
Those Michigan Blue berries made their way to Wisconsin this week. Two pints for $3.00. You know when produce is at its best, it is also the cheapest. We had the annual picnic for the Stark Company Middleton last week and because I have spoiled them in the past, they expect a pie from me for the potluck. I toyed with buying one at the Hubbard Avenue Diner, right around the corner from my Parmenter Street office. But, no! I went to the store in the evening an the blueberry shelves were empty! Totally. The next morning was the picnic and I was

Lakeview Park, Middleton WI 53592 - 08/15/10 03:58 PM
Lakeview Park is the largest Park in Middleton-over 80 acres. You can play tennis, soccer, hold a large gathering in the shelter. The pond is not only great for fishing, but as you walk around on the path, there are numerous exercise stations with diagrammed instructions for strength, balance, cardio and abs toning. You can even catch a concert there occasionally by a local jazz band-or who knows what else if you are just strolling by. The best feature of all is the new Splash Pad-a mini water play place for kids. I am not going to tell you that I have ever made

2nd QUARTER RESULTS FOR MIDDLETON WI HOME SALES - 08/14/10 10:21 AM
Here is a look at the 2nd Quarter MLS results (no FSBOs are included) for single family home sales in Middleton, comparing it to the past two years. DOM equals Days on The Market. THESE FIGURES REALLY TELL A STORY! It is much better to have a good idea of what to expect, even though those these figures say "OUCH," if you are wanting to sell your home. Keep in mind that you can quite possibly make up on the buying end, what you may be losing on the selling of your home. Sellers must be ready to price their home attractively. The better news here,

Where Should We Go To Dinner? No Wonder it is Hard to Choose in Madison! And Knoxville, TN and Austin TX and Washington D.C. and. . . too! - 08/10/10 12:24 AM
This afternoon I was chatting with a man visiting the Madison area from Knoxville and he and his group were asking for a recommendation of where to have dinner. My response went something like, "Madison has so many restaurants for a medium sized city that it is hard to just throw out one recommendation!" He told me that Knoxville, TN, has the most restaurants per capita in THE WORLD. Well, my research took me here: Impressive, don't you think? But it did not say in the WORLD. The Knoxville gentleman told me that Madison was right up there with probably more restaurants per

Feedback. You're not afraid of a little feedback are you? C'mon, you'll grow. It will make you a better person. Dare to ask! If you loose a listing, do you ask why? I want to ask more directly. They do tell you- sometimes MORE THAN YOU WANT TO KNOW. Other times, of course, you just see the OTHER real estate sign in the yard after they have not gotten back to you. It does often cause a bit of pain. The above is a Clipart image of a medical diagram of human pain sensors, showing detailing of the intricate design of nerve

How Much Is That Doggie In The Window Gonna Cost Ya? - 08/03/10 09:41 PM
First of all, I am a dog lover and a cat tolerator. The worst part about cats is that I am allergic to them. The unconditional love and the desire to be part of my pack are two big reasons why I love dogs. They make me laugh, too. My ex used to practice his saxophone in the house, and my standard poodle, curled up by feet while I was blogging, would howl when Peter played the blues. The dog didn't have the blues and it was not a howl of protest, he was accompanying the music. Loved it!

I don't know who has listed this property in Dover NH, but what a slice of history that will be! My ancestor, John Dexter, came to this country in the 1600's from Northern Ireland. I love this story because the Tuttles arrived at about the same time and both came because

Price wars! They can still happen - 08/01/10 02:10 PM
This house has lovley extensive perennial gardens and cedar siding and is adjacent to a park. A lovely living room with windows overseeing the neighborhood. Quirky but charming And many challenges! 50 years of heavy smoking (lots done to re-mediate but smell still present), small bedrooms and one altered by adding a darkroom which cut the bedroom in half. No definable dining and very tiny eat in space allowing two small chairs. No garage. Second bathroom in a little room adjavecent to the furnace with a removed metal shower stall skeleton. It looks rather like an afterthought in a factory. Only
