photographs: Nuts, Nuts, Who's Got the Nuts - 10/28/11 07:29 PM

While on a nature hike this morning, I spotted a tree full of squirrels in Loma Linda, CA. They were all eating nuts!

This big squirrel was extremely busy and didn’t notice me at first.

Sitting on the fence eating his nut.

He was hiding behind the pole. I see you...........

Where are those nuts?

Up in the tree at last!

Oh boy, I have my nuts!

photographs: Prickly and Red.....but oh so Tasty - 10/26/11 06:18 PM

This interesting and common cactus is called “Prickly Pear” or “Paddle Cactus". Originally from Mexico but grows all over the world. I found this huge beautiful cactus in Loma Linda, CA.

The paddles can be peeled and cooked. The red fruit, known as cactus figs or Indian figs, is found growing on the paddles and also can be eaten. Both the paddles and the fruit are covered with spines called glochids. These have to be removed carefully or they will get embedded into a person’s skin. The fruit is ready for harvest in the fall when the color … (22 comments)

photographs: Bear Cub Makes Mess in Grocery Store - 10/19/11 11:59 AM

Saw this on the news last night. In Alaska, a bear cub was found sitting up on the vegetables in the Produce Section and upsetting the customers. The little guy had to be physically removed. They said this happens quite often in Alaska. Can you imagine having to make sure there are no bears in the store when you are shopping? Frankly, I am sure this is really a rare event or it would not have been all over the national news. All I have to say is, I have been to Alaska 3 times and traveled all over the … (14 comments)

Inspirational Homes of the 20's Still Standing!
I just love driving around and taking pictures of older homes . I found two great sites and would like to share with you. I believe these older homes are very inspirational and bring us back to a simplier time.
The first one just sold in Redlands, CA and will be rehabbed shortly. The second property is located in South Loma Linda, CA. It is just the barn as the house was torn down in the past 20 years. Still they are great relics of the 30's.

This house is located on Alabama Avenue in Redlands, … (15 comments)

Five Little Hungry Piglets ..all in a row!
Last weekend I went to the LA County fair and had a terrific time looking at all the animals and taking pictures. Here are a few cute piggy pictures!

2 mama pigs sleeping with their piglets.

This little white pig got up and was squealing and trying to wake everyone up.

This little white one tried to get her mother up but finally went back to sleep.

But this last picture is so adorable. All the little black/white piglets went over to their mother. One got … (10 comments)

I am also involved in the community as I care about the Inland Empire and making it a better place to live. I write this daily blog composed of nature, real estate news and interesting stories in Southern Califoria and other places across the United States.
