In 1904, this was the first time people celebrated New Years Eve in One Times Square in New York. The first New Year’s Eve Ball lowering celebration atop One Times Square was in 1907. It was made of iron and wood, weighed 700 pounds, and was covered with 100 light bulbs. Fireworks had been banned so the lights would shine over the city.
The New York Times owned the building where the tower is located but moved to another location in 1914. The NY Times retained (10 comments)
short sales: She Works Hard for Her Money

2013 Song Theme Challenge - She Works Hard for Her Money Earlier in my real estate career, sales were fast and ample buyers and sellers. Then the market collapsed and I turned my focus on Foreclosed Homes but now the market has improved and short sales are the focus so I work hard for my clients to get every short sale closed. Working with the owners of underwater homes can be difficult as they are scared and usually emoitional and want to trust their Realtor but are afraid that the bank or banks will not cooperate. I am careful not to make (10 comments)

Real Estate Scam as Criminals are Renting Homes Listed for Sale in MLS Real Estate Scam as Criminals are Renting Homes Listed for Sale in MLS A local Realtor in the Corona area of California recently listed her own home for sale. Immediately, her office started getting a lot of calls regarding renting out the property. She received a call from a prospective renter who asked her if she would be trying to sell the house out from under him. She was so surprised as she was SELLING the house and not RENTING it. This home which was selling for $519,000 was a (12 comments)
Hungry birds have always been a problem and they eat the crops in the fields. The first recorded history of Scarecrows were over 2500 years ago when the Egyptians and Greeks put them in their fields to protect the wheat from large flocks of quail and other hungry birds. Immigrants who moved to the United States during the 1800s brought with them a variety of ideas for making scarecrows. In Pennsylvania, German farmers built human looking scarecrows called a bootzamon or bogeyman. His body was a wooden cross and his head was a (28 comments)

I prefer mysteries and find a lot of good shows on TV so for fun I watch medical shows that are soapy but interesting. TV entertains me while I am working on the computer at night. But I must confess that one of my favorite shows is “Haven” which is a sci-fi show involving a few not so normal characters living in a small coastal community in Maine. The main reason I do not read much anymore because about half way through a book, I just figure (10 comments)
My daughter got the bright idea in her third year of college (2010) to get a scooter to drive it to school. The idea was to save money and gas. This was something she conspired with her father so he took her to the Yamaha Dealer and bought her one. Plus she had to have a helmet and not just a plain one but one of those expensive ones with graphics all over it. Then it had to be insured. Life seemed good for her and she was so (12 comments)
In the Maine Farmers' almanac page for August 1937, the calendar ‘Definition of a Blue Moon’ explained that occasionally "one of the four seasons would contain four full moons instead of the usual three."
There are seven Blue Moons in a Lunar Cycle of nineteen years and commenting that in olden times the almanac makers had much difficulty calculating the occurrence of the Blue Moon and this uncertainty gave rise to the expression 'Once in a Blue Moon.'
I try to keep my office clean but it becomes a catch all for all the things I do not really have a place for. Believe it or not, I think everything should be in the right drawer, the dishwasher and not the sink, the dirty clothes and not the floor or closet, put away or in the trash if not needed BUT there is also a place where I might want to put something because I just may need it again. Can you guess where that (11 comments)

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over 30,000 people in the US have been diagnosed with the disease and over 1,200 have died. Not all cases are properly diagnosed so the odds are there are many more cases and more deaths. What is the mosquito’s active season? From April to October yearly is the active mosquito season. As most have heard, on Friday Proposition 8 was struck down by the California Appeals Court and now same sex marriages are legal in California and 12 other states across the nation. This has been a big fight and many are still unhappy with the ruling. But as a Realtor, we have a duty to help our clients regardless of any person objections someone might have. I am sure many couples will want to buy homes together and this will definitely help the economy. I see this as a big move for (4 comments)
We hear all the articles on the news about someone leaving their dog or even their baby in the car in 110 degree heat and we shake our heads. Most of these situations turn out really bad. Sad thing is that this occurs way too often in the US so here are few reminders for us all. In the summer, do not leave your pets alone in the car…just leave them at home. Cars can get up to 120 degrees and cause heat stroke or death. (This (29 comments)
