book: Porthsmouth Book Club June Meetup - Pride and Prejudice and Zombies - 05/12/10 01:25 AM
Tonight we discussed, "Book of Vice" by Peter Sagal and we expected a small turnout not because of the material but because of the number of RSVPs. However, it turned out to be a very large group for this particular group discussion which I was not prepared for! We had to bring out extra tables for all of the new people. I couldn't have anticipated a better evening. Many of us enjoyed Mr. Sagal's satryical point of views on naughty vices, but his words fell short on ears that had not before heard his tones and voice. I love Peter on his NPR

book: Portsmouth, NH Book Club January Pick - The Help - 12/12/09 10:12 PM
In our last meeting we discussed The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. First, I would like to openly admit that I did not finish the book, although I am the meeting founder and coordinator. This usually does not happen. But what can I say? A) I'm human. B) I'm a full time real estate agent slash mom. And I had an extremely busy month. So let's leave it at that. This is one of the reasons I started my book club. There are many reasons, but one is the fact that I love to read but often lack the time. Book

book: The Portsmouth Book Club July Pick - Three Cups of Tea - 06/10/09 12:03 AM
Tonight we had our June meeting for the Portsmouth Book Club where we discussed, The Reader, by Bernhard Schlink. Our book club now has over 150 members! We have been growing like crazy. Who knew that we had that many fierce book lovers in Seacoast New Hampshire? I finally took a picture of one of our meetings with a few of our members who came this evening. It is a bit fuzzy. I am kneeling in the front row in blue. I have not seen the movie yet (which stars Kate Winslet), and I hear that the movie does justice

book: The Portsmouth Book Club May Pick - 04/15/09 08:04 PM
Last night we had our monthly book club meetup and as usual, it was a success. I believe I forgot to post our last book choice which was A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. We had a very interesting discussion on the book. I still liked his first book, The Kite Runner, the best - yet his new novel was just as gut wrenching, and just as thoughtful. I think that one of the best features of his books is how much Mr. Hosseini teaches us of the former Afghanistan and how enlightened the people had been before the Taliban

book: The Portsmouth Book Club February Meeting - 01/31/09 11:10 AM
I believe I forgot to post our January meeting on Active Rain. This month we read The Poisonwood Bible and enjoyed a lively discussion of the famous novel at our usual place of libations and stimulating conversation, The Coat Of Arms in downtown Portsmouth. My Portsmouth Book Club has hit the 100 member mark! As I am writing this, we now have 107 members! It is a milestone! Next month we will be discussing The Pillars of the Earth, by Ken Follett which is a book in my all time top five favorite books. However, the group chose the book, I

book: The Unexpected Christmas Gift - 12/23/08 11:10 AM
I have no words to describe it. It was truly a small miracle! I run a book club in Portsmouth, NH. The book we chose for next month is The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. So, as usual, I ordered a copy from Amazon.Com for a whole penny plus shipping, hardcover too! You can find the best deals on Amazon. My book had not arrived yet and it had been two weeks, I was about to contact the Seller last night but I never got around to it because I received an email from someone who found me last night on
