things to do: South Florida Museum - 02/19/08 01:13 PM
Yesterday I visited the South Florida Museum in Bradenton. This was the first time I had ever been there. I can't believe I've missed out on such an interesting place for so long! I've driven by it hundreds of times, yet never stopped in to check it out! I was quite surprised at how big it really is. There are actually 3 sections. The South Florida Museum, the Bishop Planetarium and the Parker Aquarium. All 3 are connected and you get to visit all of them when you pay the admission. There was a lot to see there and I found it pretty interesting!

things to do: GeckoFest 2008 - 02/02/08 09:50 AM
It's that time of year again! In case you hadn't noticed, the Geckos are once again invading Bradenton. These aren't the small little creatures you normally see either. These are large 6 foot long geckos that are being spotted all over downtown Bradenton on the sides of buildings! These brightly colored hand painted creatures are a sight to see! The really are works of art. The Bradenton GeckoFest first debuted in 2006 as a fundraiser for the Village of the Arts, creating an important bridge between the business and arts communities -- a brilliant pairing. Schools and social groups got involved, and

things to do: My Vacation To Key West & Miami Is Over, Now Back To Reality.... - 12/31/07 08:31 AM
I had family from Michigan come down for Christmas and we decided to drive down to Key West & Miami since none of us had been there. We had *so much fun*. We saw some very interesting folks there....LOL....You could just sit for hours and people watch and be entertained. There was a guy riding a bike down the street with a *large* iguana on the back of it....not in a cage! A guy walking down the beach with a Macaw bird sitting on his shoulder. On Duval Street in Key West, there were lots of "interesting folks" there too. Duval Street seemed to be the

things to do: It's that time of year again, and the manatees are back - 12/08/07 09:26 AM
Yesterday I had some free time and decided to go see if the manatees were back yet, and they were! Every year from about November till about the middle of April, when the waters get cooler, the manatees come inland to the warmer waters found in springs or the power plant discharge canals in Florida. One of those power plant discharge canals happens to be in Apollo Beach which is less than an hour from Bradenton. There were quite a few manatees there yesterday. Sometimes it's hit and miss when you go. Sometimes you can go and maybe see one or none and sometimes you can

things to do: The thrill is gone - 11/30/07 08:06 AM
I was reading a story this morning about Pirate's Cove in Bradenton closing it's doors down for good after 23 years, and thought how sad this was. This was only one of two family fun centers that were still open in the area between Tampa and Cape Coral. Now there is only one in Sarasota still open. All the other's have closed down, been bull dozed over and new businesses built in their place. Pirate's Cove sold out to developers and a gas station and self-storage are expected to replace it. I was sad to hear this news because I remember going to places like

things to do: Beautiful Sunset At Little Harbor In Ruskin, Florida - 07/20/07 10:25 PM
Tonight me and my mom went to Little Harbor in Ruskin to eat dinner and watch the sun set. We ate at the Sunset Grill. Dinner was good, the music was great and the sunset was fantastic. After dinner, we sat on the beach and watched the kids play in the water and the sun set. Hope you enjoy the photos below. The sun set was beautiful. This is why I love living in Florida! If you haven't had a chance to go to the Sunset Grill at Little Harbor in Ruskin, you really should go check it out some time. Or if you're looking for

things to do: Regatta Pointe Marina, Palmetto Florida - 07/20/07 05:09 PM
The Regatta Pointe Marina is located in Palmetto just before you go over the green bridge off to the west. This is one of my favorite places to go because of the Riverside Cafe. You can dine outside and watch the boats in the Marina or watch the sun set at night while listening to the live music they have there. With a membership to the Boat Club, you can rent a boat for a day and enjoy the waters of the Manatee River. If you own a boat, you can come into the Marina, where there's a ship store and stock up on

things to do: Emerson Point Park, Palmetto Florida - 07/17/07 07:04 AM
Emerson Point is a 195-acre park located in Palmetto on Snead Island. It is located at the end of 17th St W where the Manatee River meets the Gulf of Mexico. Click here to view a map of where Emerson Point is located at. I decided to take a drive out there to get some pictures of the area and of the water. I have been there a few times, but until yesterday, I wasn't even aware of what I had been missing. Normally when I go, I drive all the way to the end of Emerson Point to the water. Yesterday, I

things to do: Bradenton Area Beaches - 07/09/07 10:20 AM
The Islands just west of Bradenton have some of the most beautiful beaches around! The water is a beautiful shade of green, the sandy beaches line the coastline and the sun is always shinning! Anna Maria Island, Holmes Beach, Bradenton Beach and Longboat key make up what is known as "The Islands". The Islands are a different world of their own. If you haven't been there or you aren't familiar with the area, it's kind of hard to explain. Once you cross the bridge from Bradenton onto the Islands, you just feel like you're in a different world. Maybe it's because you see the

things to do: What is your favorite vacation spot and why? - 06/23/07 04:14 PM
I'm one that never takes a vacation. For some reason, I can't seem to ever find the right time to take off, so I have never really been on a vacation anywhere. I know we all need to force ourselves once in a while to take time off of work, but I have to admit that it's a very hard thing for me to do. If I'm not working, I'm always thinking to myself of the things I could be doing or working on instead of taking time off. There are a lot of places I would love to go and see,

things to do: Little Manatee River State Park, Wimauma Florida - 06/16/07 03:10 PM
OK, let me first start by saying how disappointing this park was! It was only $4 to get in, but for what we saw, that $4 was a waste of money! The park ranger gave us a map of the park, so we set out to find a place to eat and enjoyed a picnic lunch before we set out on our 6.5 mile walk that would take us along the Manatee River. The brochure she gave us showed the map of the park with the trails along side of the river. We thought, this will be cool. We should be able to get

things to do: Village Of The Arts, Bradenton Florida - 06/15/07 10:18 PM
The Village Of The Arts is located in Bradenton, close to downtown and located between 9th Ave W and 17th Ave W & between 9th St W and 14th St W. There are about 40 shops, art studios and galleries located in this neighborhood. The Artists Guild of Manatee, Inc was formed in the summer of 1999 to create the Village of the Arts in Bradenton. The idea for the community was to develop a neighborhood where artists of all kinds could live, work and run their businesses. Many of the shops & galleries are open to the public during the Friday
