Economic news for November, 2008 - 11/10/08 10:54 AM

Via Wayne "SHORTY" Short:
The Labor Department reported that 240,000 jobs were lost in October, which was worse than the expected loss of 200,000 jobs. In addition, the Unemployment Rate jumped to 6.5%, up from last month's read of 6.1% and reaching the highest unemployment rate since 1994. And if the current numbers weren't bad enough, there were heavy downward revisions to August and September numbers, which erased an additional 179,000 jobs. So far in 2008, a total of 1.18 million jobs have been lost, with 651,000 job losses coming in just the past three months. Look for things to get worse … (0 comments)

Appraiser Pressure - 11/07/08 02:13 PM

Via Beverly Bayer:
Appraiser Pressure: Real or Perceived
Appraisal pressure has become a hot topic, but what really is it that participants in a real estate appraisal assignment are not allowed to do.   Appraisers understand that our lender and real estate clients are in the business of making loans and selling homes, and they understandably do not want the appraiser to kill their deals.   However, the "appraiser must perform assignments with impartiality, objectivity, and independence, and without accommodation of personal interests" and not advocate the cause or interest of any party or issue".  So there is sometimes a conflict between the needs … (1 comments)
