More Halloween events are happening in the Gold Canyon area. There is something for everyone. Visit our GoldCanyon.net blog to learn more about additional safe alternative to trick -or-treating. There is the Annual Harvest Festival, an Alice in Wonderland House complete with Alice, the Cheshire Cat, the Caterpillar, croquet with the Queen of Hearts and a “Tea Party” with the Mad Hatter, plus an event called the Halloween Special. “Trunk or Treat” is becoming a popular way for families with kids to be able to enjoy Halloween in a safe way. The community, church, or other group puts a group of cars in a parking lot which they decorate with Halloween decorations and offer candy and treats to kids. The kids come to the destination instead of going door to door. Much safer for the kids. Here is an excellent production that will be taking place at the Beuf Community Center in Phoenix during the coming season. This fun event happens on November 15th. The cast from Act Two Productions is presenting On the Air. This is an original musical comedy with classic hits of the 50s and 60s. The venue will include cake and coffee. This is the time of year when many seasonal visitors come to Arizona to spend several weeks or months. There are a lot of great entertainment venues. In the next few posts we'll post some of these entertainment opportunities for our visitors to the "valley of the sun".
Our ASU Gammage Auditorium Theatre is bringing back Happy Days. This is a play based on the hit TV series that was so loved. The Gammage is one of the best theater venues in the Phoenix area. This event will be happening November 18-23. Call 480-965-3434 for ticket and time details.
Update on the Need of the Gold Canyon Arizona Food Bank - 10/18/08 09:09 PM
Earlier this month we wrote a blog post about the fact that food banks are very much in need of support. The down turned economy and people losing jobs has made the situation really dire. After we posted the information the local media called and talked with us and then they ran a story about the situation and how the Gold Canyon Arizona Food Bank urgently needs everyone's help who is able to offer support. Their shelves are almost bare. They also pointed to other Phoenix food bank locations that need support as well. We have posted an update on our (5 comments)

The weekend of October 25 is the final weekend of the annual Fall Plant Sale at Boyce Thompson Arboretum State Park. There will be a special guided tour by author and landscape expert Tom McDonald, owner of Smiling Dog Landscape in Gold Canyon. Afterwards there will be a steel drum band concert that will take place in the picnic area where Visitors are invited to bring a picnic and enjoy the concert. If you are into art and artists and will be in Arizona Oct 19-26, 2008 you will want to take a trip to Sedona Arizona and take in what is called the Sedona Plein Air Festival. There will be more than 30 award winning artists. There are daytime events and an evening with the artists on Oct 24th. Also a public exhibit and sale happens on Oct 25 and 26. One of Phoenix Arizona's charming French restaurants is Coup Des Tartes. This place has been voted as best date restaurant, best "BYOB" restaurant, and likely if you search the local press you'll find a few other best "something" designations. With a seasonal menu the place always has something fresh, new and interesting to offer. Only open for dinners Tuesday through Saturday. If you are needing a meeting space, they have a lovely space to use called Rendez-Vous. Additinally they are available for off-site catering and have done thousands of events. If you are living in, or driving about Carefree, Arizona and are in the mood for some French Bistro dining then check out Café Bink. A bit casual and not terribly expensive, this interesting American French Bistro restaurant is open for both lunch and dinner every day except Monday. Their Foie gras terrine with brioche, orange marmalade and watercress is the most expensive thing on the menu at $24. There are quiche, trout, roast chicken, hanger steak and more all interestingly prepared. With their Tempe location being the first in Arizona for this chain restaurant, Maria Maria, comes to Tempe and serves delightful Mexican food. (They have two other locations in California and one in Texas.) With interesting items like duck tacos and spicy baked cheese, they also have their own specialties such as "suizas" which are an unusual menu item with corn tortillas filled either with shrimp or crab meat and baked with Swiss cheese and covered with roasted tomato cream sauce. If you live in, or plan to be visiting Chandler Arizona you may want to check out the restaurant called Cork. The establishment has, yes, wine, but also is oriented to small plates. Named for the cork in wines, but also for it's own cork flood, the place is unique. The menu changes often and changes with the season. The house specialty is something called a deconstructed banana cream pie. another specialty is that a lot of the menu items are constructed around the sweet-salty premise. Over Easy is an interesting breakfast place located in an old Taco Bell stand in Phoenix Arizona. With limited seating and only open from 6:30am until 11:30am to serve breakfast, this place is an interesting find. They have everything from omelets to french toast, pancakes -- both the traditional varieties as well as unusual types such as Reeces' piece pancakes or chocolate waffles, or french toast with bananas and pecans. In this difficult, tough economy there are more people in need of assistance at their local food banks. If there are those of us who have what we need and can spare some food for food banks in our local communities, without a doubt they will appreciate the help. This week we went by our local Gold Canyon food bank to make a donation and there was a sign that said they did not have enough supplies to help people until closer to the end of the month. The "snow-birds" are beginning to return to Gold Canyon Arizona. (Snow-birds = residents who leave for the hottest summer months to go to a cooler climate.) The weather is becoming more mild.
