Because Arizona has a large number of pools, the concern for children around pools is always heightened. Every summer needless numbers of children drown. Since 2001 the Phoenix Firefighters Association, SRP and Valley of the Sun United Way have come together to support a free Adopt-a-Pool-Fence Program. This program is offered as a way for safe pool fences to be installed for hundreds of Arizona Valley families who otherwise could not afford to buy a pool fence themselves.
