king county: King County Sales Tax to increase April 1st - 03/25/07 02:26 AM
The King County Sales Tax, within the Regional Transit Authority, will raise from 8.8% to 8.9% on April 1, 2007.  For restaurants, bars and coffee shops, the rate will increase to 9.4%.  The extra .5% is to pay off Safeco Field debt.
The .1% increase is a result of the voter approved tax increase to expand metro bus service.
As a note to new residents, the Washington State Sales tax is 6.5%.  However, County and City municipalities append their own taxes to that rate.  Therefore, the sales tax rate will differ between municipalities.

king county: King County: Living the Dream - 03/12/07 03:52 PM
King County, home to the City of Seattle, is Washington State's most populated and politically moderate counties.  The name "King" was originally attributed to William Rufus King, a southern US Vice-president and slave owner.
In 1986, the King County Council, passed a motion changing the namesake of King County in favor of the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr.  Though the name change was not official until 2005 when the governor signed the bill into law (only the State has the authority to charter counties).
For the past 40 years, the King County logo has been an image of an encircled crown.
Today, the King … (5 comments)

king county: Redfin Cloning - 10/10/06 03:57 PM

Another online real estate company has surfaced in the Pacific Northwest. Ezdigs.com is fairly similar to Redfin but will focus on King and South Snohomish Counties.
On the buyer’s side, Ezdigs.com will retain 1% (of the purchase price) and rebate the remainder to the buyer. The buyer will need to do their own research and view homes on their own, though it seems they will make the arrangement on the buyer’s behalf, something Redfin doesn’t seem to do.
On the seller’s side, it’s essentially a 4% listing company. Ezdigs.com will list for 1% and recommend 3% selling office commission to the … (6 comments)

king county: Concrete Stike Ends - 08/26/06 03:33 PM
The one month long concrete strike has ended as workers accepted a deal providing a $3.95/hr raise over three years. Stalled city & county, as well as private projects (e.g. Domaine Condominium, Mosler Lofts. et al) can now get going again.
But, was it all for nought? The longevity of the strike that is, since the $3.95 was on the table for several weeks. Eighty-eight workers holding hostage numerous projects county-wide eventually settled for what they were originally offered. Yet, they probably cost the city and builders thousands if not hundreds of thousands more.

king county: July Market Update - 08/08/06 01:50 AM
The Seattle area, despite our record hot temperatures, seems to be cooling on the housing front.  Within Seattle, inventory continues to go up resulting in a  20% increase over the previous year.  Additionally, Seattle saw a 12.11% decrease in pendings and a 15.55% decrease in closed sales compared to July 2005.
Though on a postive note prices continue to rise with a 14.6% increase in median sale price from a year ago.  While that appreciation make be great for current homeowners, it continues to place homeownership further out of reach for those who currently rent.  Within King County only 7% of … (0 comments)
