The Windom neighborhood is located in south of Diamond Lake Road to the "Crosstown" (Highway 62), and from Interstate 35W to the east, and 62nd Street and Lyndale Avenue to the west.  Windom neighborhood's namesake William Windom was a United States senator from the mid- to late-1800s and also served as secretary of the treasury.
The southern portion of the neighborhood houses a sizeable industrial area, about 15 percent of the neighborhood's land.  The rest of Windom is a quite, safe residential community, tucked neatly away from the hustle and bustle of city traffic.  Ironically, one of the largest highway construction … (0 comments)

This has got to be one of the most unique and enjoyable events of the winter.  Kites of all shapes, colors and sizes take to the sky above Lake Harriet.  What develops is an explosion of color and excitement, hot chocolate, and cider are passed as neighbors and friends enjoy the show, and partake with their own kites.  Just what the Dr. ordered to break us out of our hibernation.

Here is one for the Myth Busters!  Apparently Lake Nokomis Walleye really do glow in the dark.  I've heard this one before and assumed it was, what else, a "fish tail".
Apparently there may be some truth to it.  Most Minnesotans already know that Walleye's have reflective, almost luminescent eye's - hence their name.  But, there is more to it. 
In 1942 the Coast Guard and the Marine Air Reserve secretly released millions of Glowlight Shrimp into Lake Nokomis as part of Operation Four Eyes.  These small effofluorescent shrimp glow when agitated, and helped the military locate submersible water craft they'd lost … (0 comments)

Light Up LoringYes it's true winters here, and while it hasn't actually snowed yet, some of the season's best events are coming up... time to stop fretting about the impending deep freeze, and to START HAVING FUN!
Kick your blues at the "Light Up Loring Park" event this Thursday, Dec. 13.  They will be lighting the big tree at 6:15 and FREE horse drawn carriage rides, refreshments, music and an outdoor bonfire follow.

In the southwest corner of Minneapolis, Fulton is most well known for Lake Harriet, Minnehaha Creek, Southwest High School and the 50th and France shopping district.  Fulton's boundaries are W. 47th St. to the north, Penn Ave. S. to the east, W. 54th St. to the south, and France Ave. S. to the west. Nearby neighborhoods include Linden Hills, Lynnhurst, Armatage and Edina lies to the south and west. Lake Harriet sits in Fulton's northeast corner and Minnehaha Creek runs through it. Linden Hills:
Charming and quaint Linden Hills is just south of Lake Calhoun and west of Lake Harriet. It is bordered to the south by West 47th St. and to the west by France Ave. 
Named by a developer for the abundance of linden trees and rolling hills.  Developed in the 1880s as lake cottages, most of the original cottages have been replaced by bungalows and Tudors.
