Reading about Babe Ruth when I was ten changed my life. Success was my only option and pointing at the fence, confident of my next home run was my focus. It is amazing how heroes are born and how they tend to be successful. The way I look at success is alot like Brett Noel looks at success. The way that the Bible looks at success is similar to any course on motivation that I have ever taken. Even Tony Robbins has success-oriented approaches to oneself that can change your focus toward that of success.

I WILL BE SUCCESSFUL TODAY. GOD HAS IT ALL UNDER CONTROL. This is a statement, believe it or not. One way to become successful is to arrive at the conclusion, here, now. After you are done with this blog write down 5 successful outcomes of your life and just Thank God in your own way for expressing this gratitude. Do this everyday. The results will motivate you and keep your mind focused on good things, good reports, good life.

Listen to music that builds up your spirit, frees you to dream. "Bear with one another in love". Be Patient. Be Kind. Be Humble. This is success, simply put, simply done. In my opinion.

I'd just like to Thank my 7th grade English teacher Mr. Little for his encouraging comment (whispered bluntly in my ear in the middle of a classroom stroll to meet me at my desk personally) "Mr. Hurbon, if you ask one more question in my class I am going to rip your head off !!!). True story. Of course I turned red and was silenced for a few classes but that did not stifle my quest for satisfying my curiosity about writing in the English language. I went on later to win the Eric Jensen Award for Creative Writing as well as "The Nicest Eyes". This is why I am so successful blogging today. I'd also like to Thank the members of my band who turned me on to amazing lyric writers such as Elvis Costello, The Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, Willie Porter, Pete Seeger, Shel Silverstein, Woody Guthrie, Billy Joel, Bernie Taupin, and more recently Chris Tomlin, David Crowder, Steven Curtis Chapman and numerous more. Blogging is more than some words, it's social networking in action. It's a ripple in the water and the pursuit of what is down the rabbitt hole. It's like hang gliding in the dark or a burned stale pretzel from a vendor on the streets of New York City. It's like watching "Romancing The Stone" for the first time or a bottle of Joe Tea (getting to write in the Joe Tea journal). Anyway, thanks to everyone who blogs and reads my blogs and I hope to return the gesture one day. Like a lyric line from my CD "Puppy Song Party" and from my famous children's song "The Puppy Song". HAVE A PUPPY DAY !!!!
Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell sang "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and that's the THEME SONG FOR MY CAREER. This song has a way of endearing me to my clients and motivating me to climb over every obstacle. It has a message that says "I will be there" and I want my clients to know that about my type of service and follow-up. Sure, I has missed the mark on occassion, I am human. But I have implanted the desire to strive to become better and better and I feed that desire everyday. Sometimes I pray to God for a new door to open when the time in right. I am constantly amazed that when I reach out a loving hand to comfort or uplift someone else, an even stronger hand reaches out to me and blesses my heart and life. Keeping motivated and positive can be a challenge in the current market and blogging on ActiveRain has been a source of encourage for me. Reading the blogs of real estate agents from Cochise County or anywhere in the nation has openned my eyes to countless topics that have helped me manage my career.
Becoming an expert in an area takes research. Museums are rich in local area culture, history and facts that can lead you to contacts and better yet, interesting stories. Interesting stories about the local history, mountains, architecture or industry can be useful as "ice breakers" with clients. If you are not familar with the term "ice breakers" it's ok, it's a fancy name for "Building rapport". Stories can allow a client to get familar with an area. I don't mean breaking into a 30 minute seminar on the history of mining in Cochise County, keep it short and simple and interesting. Try to base your story on positive aspects that apply to growing community, economical growth, points of interest that bring out the best in the city. The Benson Museum and many museums have alot to offer real estate agents. www.bensonmuseum.com will probably to you to their website. Try your city website and go and visit it. Take along a few note cards and gather some story material. The other source is the local chamber of commerce. The Benson Chamber of Commerce, for instance, is staffed with people who know the finer points of the city and are prepared to share their stories with you as well.
Using symbols and special codes is necessary to communicate in some areas of highly specialized intelligent circles. The more clearly we can communicate, the more effective the message we convey. My wife and I had some communication issues shortly after bringing our second child into the world. We sought the advice of a marriage counselor. She asked us to tell a story, then she said that I was a PAINTER and my wife was a POINTER. What's a PAINTER ? It's a person who must go into great detail to paint all aspects of a circumstance or issue and it takes the listener a longer time to get the point. (Usually the listener starts to wander and wonder when the point will be made, sometimes wonder - what is the point to this epic story). Now my wife can get to the point in about 6 seconds flat... "Bring home milk... Dog needs bath ... Come eat now ... Clean the garage ... Make your point ... Lord Help Us " Anyway, my wife and I got alot out of the marriage counseling and are still married after 23 years now. We understand eachother's processing styles better than ever. Are you a painter or a pointer ? Does it matter to your clients, friends, cellphone bills ??? Yankee Foxtrot Hotel , it's not just an album by WILCO or a military code for the alphabet...it's getting better at communication to do better business.
I have often read about the Biblical World view concerning the oratory escapades of Jesus Christ and from what I have read...WOW...could he work a room. Captivating and challenging every audience with the dropping of tips and philosophy that listeners could take away with them back to their villages, towns, cities and nations. Where's your audience ? What's your motivation for meeting people. What do you hope to gain by engaging a stranger, a prospect or client in a conversation or debate. What have you got to lose by sharing information with people in a market that is disillusioned, at best and facing a volitile economy. Why not write down your TOP 5 Priorities today. Write down each priority on a 3 x5 note card and on the back write down why this task, issue, goal or thought is important for your to achieve, believe and recieve. Here's how my cards read this week...

1) MEET WITH GOD (Morning Bible Reading/Prayer Time/Thankfulness for blessings, find out where God may be asking me to change or become better in particular areas.)

This is important for me because I draw on the peace and wisdom gained in this time throughout the day.

2) LOVE MY FAMILY (Cook, Coffee, Encourage, Hug, Kiss, Joke, Cry sometimes, in gratitude, Respect Time together)

This is important to me because it strengthens my relationship with my Wife, it is my way of accomplishing being part of My Family and it fills my heart with Joy to hear my wife and kids laugh and to BE LOVED BY MY FAMILY.

3) WORK (My follow-ups, Networking, My leads / My Seeds, Feed the Lambs, Make connections between business partners from various fields, Set and hit goals, Find out who knows what I need to know about specific business situations, Sell houses, Follow -up more and more until I hit my goals, Generate Income)

This is important to me because I have worked since I was 14 years old and I LOVE TO WORK.

4) REWARD GREAT EFFORTS - Send Thank You notes and make Uplifting contact calls when possible to let people know I care. Being a part of someones "Happy Day" can uplift and inspire in so many ways. I guess it's called random acts of kindness.

This is important to me because I am part of a bigger picture, a huge and massive group of awesome people. I didn't arrive here on earth by accident and I intend to make a difference.

5) MAKE SMILES HAPPEN - Work or play... Make Smiles Happen. Yes, smiling is important and keeps me motivated , energetic and inspired.

REMEMBER TO WORK THE ROOM...THE PLANET IS OUR ROOM

I will not offer advice in an area of which I have no formal training. A knowledgable lender can shed light on exactly when a BRIDGE LOAN may be a viable option and what are the pitfalls associated with BRIDGE LOANS. This blog is not an advertisement nor an endorsement but rather a challenge for YOU, THE READER, to explore your personal ignorance associated with BRIDGE LOANS. This search can start with the definition of BRIDGE LOANS or a trip to a website or two that can define more technical aspects of the nature of BRIDGE LOANS. I visited www.novahomeloans.com and was pleased at their viewpoint on BRIDGE LOANS and I visited one of the most respected mortgage icons at www.mikeintucson.com . The human race has killed 100 million plus people so far in its history. Although concepts of love, peace, happiness, and serenity have been introduced many times along the way, the majority of achievements have been on the battlefield.

After creating beautiful works of marble and clay, after planting flowers and trees, and even after writing musical works that put the listener in a state of bliss, acts of hate and killing far outweigh in number the acts of creativity and inspiration. The instinct for survival has caused man to strive for total dominance.

Jesus was killed. Martin Luther King was killed. John Lennon was killed. Marvin Gaye was killed. Ghandi was killed. And all acts of violence were performed by human beings. Why? Why is it so hard for us to love eachother.

With the presidential race so close at hand we need to love eachother as a world. Let's change for our children and our children's children.

In real estate, worldwide, we are people living, being together, let us love eachother. It will make everything we achieve worthwhile and meaningful.

As I stood in line at Starbucks listening to orders I heard “Chai Crème Frappuccino Venti” and hesitated a moment to process just what the heck that was. I mean my “coffee of the day” would be ordered “black with no room” and paled in significance by any standard to the Chai order. My name would not be inscribed on the cup and I had to assure myself no one would chuckle when I placed my order for my meaningless drink. (At this point in the story, take a huge deep breath and hold it for 5 seconds). Starbucks marketing has customers who drive a Nissan Sentra walk into their store coming out with the feeling that soon they will be driving a BMW sport coupe. I have been know to keep my Starbucks cup and fill it up with office coffee just to do my part in advertising Starbucks and my passion for “free trade” coffee supporters. (At this point readers, take a second deep breath and hold it for 10 seconds, relax and read the title of this article again … very slowly). Breathing in what Starbucks has created is like dropping a sponge in the ocean and expecting it to unveil dry land. You may be asking yourself at this point has ole Johnny Hurbon strayed from the intent of the title of this article designed for real estate success? The answer is no, not at all. Starbucks eminates an attutude of people focused on great service and adopting each and every person that steps through their shop doors as a person capable and ready to make an excellent and well-informed coffee decision. (At this point take a deep breath and hold it for 20 seconds). As real estate agents every call we take, every appointment we show up on time for, every promise we keep needs to have a Starbucks approach. Take a better breath today and decide for yourself how you define "doing great business". How do you treat your customers? How do your customers feel after leaving your office? Thanks for reading this blog about how I achieved real estate success at Starbucks through better breathing. EXHALE !!! INHALE !!!! EXHALE !!! ...

Biking the back roads of Benson brings me to a stop as I view the glorious mountain ranges from Benson Horse Property opportunities. So much Arizona history, stories, paintings and dreams have been born right from where I live. Although I have yet to own a horse, I enjoy the stories of my Cowboy friends and families from our communities. Alaska oil tycoons, California Hollywood Actors and directors, Investors from Saudi Arabia and all over the world are candidates for these beautiful parcels of land.

Just pick up a copy of The Anchorage Daily news and see the potential to attract new buyers to Arizona in the best investor market I have seen in a long time. Great weather 225 days a year coupled with the convenience of Tucson being about 35 minutes away makes Benson Horse Property the next biggest attraction since the Cristiani Brothers in the Ringling Brothers Circus. Just ask a Cristiani brother. Keep your eye on the next 60 days in Benson Arizona Real Estate.

TEAMWORK is JOB #1 at Tierra Antigua Realty. Owner Kim Clifton has huge plans for the team as they explode in the increasing activity of the Tucson Arizona Real Estate Market. MLS President Kimberly Clifton has focused the office environment in on working together and it really creates a total team mindset.

Tierra Antigua is known for their "face to face" client service and has proven to be one of Southern Arizona's Top 200 employers as well. Although Raytheon has placed #1 as Arizona's employment leader, Tierra Antigua continues to serve Arizona with great opportunities as well.

http://www.azstarnet.com/sn/star200/171679.php

The greatest part about the team is the communication is always fun. Agents at Tierra Antigua pay a per transaction fee and monthly office fee. Optional offered website for agents of Tierra Antigua is also available. Teamwork is also great for encouragement when you need it, says me, John Hurbon. An agent of Tierra Antigua and a budding real estate professional in the making.

Kim Clifton is the President of Tucson MLS and a fabulous leader.

I set out to network with a company and proposed 50 companies in 50 days. Well folks, I failed. I got to 11 and got 6 leads and 3 seem to have worked out as contracts. I did learn alot about the time frames involved in establishing network groups and connections, but still I have feelings of failure.

Is there a way for me to focus on what's gone right? Is there a way for us to share our failures in book or journal as we network all over the USA ?

There is a light at that the end of the tunnel. I know this.
When I was little my Mom took me to the library. She read me Green Eggs and Ham. It was scary to me because the Doctor Suess characters looked strange and weird. I did enjoy the iambic pentameter and various rhyme that the poetry exuded however. I began memorizing books and my uncles would give me a nickel to look like I was reading. That is totally a true story. Call my Mother and ask her.

I love libraries and can be seen at the Cochise College library in between appointments.

http://www.cochise.edu/

You can find great ideas and meet people to sell real estate to in libraries. I get to post my listings on a board there and met someone famous once.

Time goes by slow in a library and I like the relative quiet to digest my thinking about my studies. Once I had a dream that I would be a librarian, it ended quickly when I learned that you have to take your lunch break at a certain time. I became a Realtor so I could take a lunch break whenever I wanted to. I also became a Realtor to make as much money as I want to. I want to earn $36,000 per month. How about you ?

It seems that before Ed and Johnny did THE TONIGHT SHOW, they joined up together to do a show called "WHO DO YOU TRUST". I guess it ran from 1957 - 1962 and I was wondering if anyone has any information about that show or how to get it on DVD ?

The thing I loved about Johnny and Ed was that Ed always commented or laughed, chuckled said "OOHHH..." and become a human puncuation mark for Johnny's monologue and vital to the feel and flow of the show.

When was the last-time a sidekick supported the main act? The Lone Ranger and Tonto, Batman and Robin, Shields and Yarnell, Starsky and Hutch, Tom and Jerry, Fred and Ethel, Lucy and Rickie, Davey and Goliath ???

Now a days people put down eachother on TV. Husbands are made to look like buffoons and many kids run the households. Not so on the Munsters. Herman Munster ran a tight ship and Little Eddy had to own up to his shananigans or go play with Wolfie.

Times have have changed, memories that have shaped my day and generation from TV will not be the shape of future generations unless we expose kids of today to good ole Bonanza, 77 Sunset Strip, F-Troop, Hazel, Denis the Menace or even The Courtship of Eddie's Father (starring Bill Bixby).

My father is always finding ways to go the EXTRA MILE. With crackers, let's say $4.50.

Now how many people on any given "sick day" bring chicken soup to you? Exactly.

How many people do you hear of or talk to over the phone that are sick or getting sick or were just sick. There's your prospect base.

My father is an amazing and talented joke teller, so he gets them to laugh on the visit.
