The annual all you can eat Sherwood High School (SHS) dungeness crab feed fundraiser & silent auction in Sherwood is underway. This much anticipated Sherwood event will again take place at the Sherwood Robin Hood Elks Lodge on Saturday, January 28th from 5:00 to 9:00 pm.

Fall means time for cozy and warm ideas around the home… And what comes to mind?  Smells of the seasons, cozy blankets and pillows and of course comfort food!

How many of you have heard of a Bean Pot?  Well let me tell you, this is the best way to prepare fast and easy meals.  With long work days, busy family schedules and football season – and we know how that goes especially here in Sherwood (home to the 5A State Champions) breaking out the crock-pot can be a life saver for many… But if you haven’t heard of or don’t already own a Bean Pot it’s time you do.  They not only make a beautiful presentation on the counter in your kitchen or dining room table in your home, they’re fantastic to have and cook with.

Free Recipes

To get you cookin’ here’s a few GREAT recipes for your Bean Pot

Beer Bread
3 cups of Self Rising Flour
1/4 cup of sugar
1 can of beer

Mix all the ingredients and bake at 350 degrees for 30 – 40 min. depending on size of pan or bowl using. This is great to bake in the Celebrating Home Bean Pot.

Taco Soup (Tonya’s Favorite)

1 Lb ground beef, cooked & drained

1 – 28 oz can kidney beans*

1 – 28 oz can diced tomatoes*

1 -14 oz can corn * (*DO NOT drain liquid)

Add all ingredients into the bean pot and cover.

Add 1-2 packets of taco seasoning OR 1 pkg Celebrating Home Southwestern Chipotle dip mix and stir.

Cook in microwave for 20 minutes.

Serve with sour cream, cheese and corn chips.

Chicken Stew

Place chicken breast in a Bean Pot.

Add 1 can chicken broth,

1 Can Cream of chicken and 1

pkg Onion Soup Mix.

Cook at 250 for at least 4 hours. Add string beans and pour over angel hair pasta.

Bachelors Roast

Place roast (about 3 lbs.) in Bean Pot

Pour 1 can of Coke

Spread 2 cups of catchup on top

Cover with the lid.

Cook for about 30 minutes per pound.

Optional: Add onions and pressed garlic.

Autumn Decorating Ideas …. Continued:

1. For a fragrant treat, fill a ceramic bowl or a wood or wicker basket with oranges, lemons,pine-cones, nuts, and pieces of evergreen. Place the container just inside the front door for a special welcome home.

2. Decorate a wreath for your front door with clusters of berries, ornamental grasses, and other fall finds. Purchase a wreath form at a local crafts store, then simply attach the berries and grasses with wire or hot glue.

3. Lead trick-or-treater’s to your door or dinner guests to the back patio with country luminaries made with old glass jars. Put a bit of sand in the jar and set a small candle in the sand. Line the sidewalk with the luminaries or even hang them from trees with wire.  If you plan ahead, you can also order battery operated tea-light candles which are perfect for projects like this.  Battery operated tea-light candles are also safe to use in paper bag projects.

4. Make an autumn garland for your mantle with colorful apples. Use an awl or knitting needle to pierce through the apples from side to side. Pull twine through the hole and knot it to hold the apple in place. Spice up the display by alternating apples with gourds, walnuts, or leaves.

5. Accent a door or wall with a swag of Indian corn. Use twine to connect the ears, knotting the twine after adding each ear. Tuck in pressed maple leaves for even more color. Then loop the twine at the top to hang.

About Relay for Life 2011

Join us this Saturday August 6th at 10:00am & Sunday August 7th at 10:00am at Sherwood High School for the 2011 Relay for Life of Sherwood!

There’s an amazing list of entertainment and activities lined up for everyone at this year’s event.  As always, our Relay kicks off with Opening Ceremonies followed by the Survivor Lap.  The Silent Auction (chaired by Team Liam) opens at noon on Saturday with auctions closing at 2:30, 3:30, 4:30 and 5:30.

The Sherwood  YMCA will be hosting the Kid’s Zone from 11am – 7pm with fun activities for kids of all ages.  Catch Zumba Dance with Brynn Sylvester at 11:00am Saturday, and the unforgettable ‘Miss-ter’ Relay contest at 3:00pm on Saturday (Our oldest son Tyler is a great sport and will be participating in Miss-ter’ Relay for the second year in a row).

Great Main Stage entertainers will be Matt Buhler at Noon on Saturday, Joseph Conty at 5:00pm and Radiyo Silence at 8:00pm.  Don’t miss the moving Luminaria Ceremony at 10:00pm.  And of course you can check out the schedule of events to find out more!

Everyone is welcome and admission, entertainment and activities are free – We “Sherwood” love to see you there!
