Chef Wynton Mann would like to invite everyone 16 and up to join him for a new class called: Salute to Sushi! This class will run from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm on Thursday, March 28th. Learn the secret technique to making sushi in only one lesson. By the end, you’ll be able to put together a California roll, Rainbow roll, miso soup and much more. The Cary Senior Center and Resources for Seniors, Inc. have teamed up for the Annual Senior Health Fair on Thursday, March 21st. The fair will include local health and wellness experts, pharmacy consultants, health screenings and more. Cary’s Kite Festival returns for another year! This will be the 18th Annual festival hosted at Fred G. Bond Metro Park. Please come out and register on Saturday, March 9th at 12:30pm to partake in the activities later on in the afternoon. If there happens to be rain, then the rain date is Sunday, March 10th. Once Anthony’s Touch of Italy, the new managers (Anthony DeMarco, Clay Adams, and Kyle Sessoms) have decided to keep the same staff and menus that were so loved by their regulars. Not only does Discover Cary want to keep you all up to date on different events happening in the Cary and surrounding areas, but we would also like to recommend some great locations for you to try out as well! The whole week we will be posting about different Valentine’s Day options for you and yours. This Thursday, February 14th, a new restaurant is opening in the Raleigh area. This Spanish will go over a variety of basic level skills you will need to move on to more advanced classes. You will learn grammar and necessary structure for speaking the language. Also, no prior knowledge on the subject is required to sign up for this course. You must be 16+. Classes begin January 29th and run through March 12th, meeting every Tuesday night from 6:30pm to 9pm. Basic Conversational Spanish II will begin March 26th if you are interested in continuing the lesson plan from Wynton Mann. All classes are held at the Page-Walker Arts and History Center.

Living alone is a great source of independence, but it can also come with a lot of work. I have a few tips to help you keep yourself on top of things and make your home for senior-safe. 1. Organize – Have a special place for all your essential items. Know where your list of phone numbers is, your wallet, medical cards, appointment cards and medications. Having a set area for each will help keep you organized so no appointments are missed and all medications are taken on time. 2. Every Tuesday starting January 22nd through May 14th, we will be meeting up to simply knit and make some friends. Classroom 302 is hosting a series of classes on Apple Computer products at the Cary Senior Center! On January 16th there will be a class at 1:30 pm on how to move from a PC to an iPad. You may be worried that one class will not be all that you need, but the instructors are offering the class again on March 6th if a refresher is needed! Robina Thornton would like you and your dog to team up and learn a few tricks of the trade together. Learn the importance you have as a leader, while teaching your dog his own self control. By the end of the classes he’ll be able to sit, down, come, stay, and walk on a loose leash. These six classes will take place at the Bond Park Community Center from January 9th through February 13th, every Wednesday from 7pm to 8pm. Cost for Cary residents is $125, nonresidents is $155. Get on your walking shoes and face that winter weather head on! From 9 am until 10:30 am join us at Bond Park Community Center for an open gym format walk workout (yes, that is quite a mouth full!). This event is free and open to the public, but you must be 16+ to participate. Walks take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, January 3rs through June 13th. It isn’t something we like to talk about, but necessary to do. Kathryn Kabat, Attorney at Law, will be in the Conference Room of the Cary Senior Center on February 19th from 10 am to noon. She will be coming back one day a month through May 21st to help prepare living wills. Eight people can be helped each hour and an appointment will be made upon calling. Please make sure you call early to make this appointment if you do not have a will made yet. Sudden health problems can occur and it would be best to have everything covered (2 comments)
