Austin is home to many desirable neighborhoods, some are close in and others are in the "burbs". There is something for everyone in Austin. Tarrytown is one of the older neighborhoods that is very close to downtown. This area has many great amenities. There is an abundance of great dining establishments like: Jeffry's, Wink, Tambaleo, Food Food, Fabi & Rosi, Mozart's, Able's on the Lake, and of course Maudies. The Lions Municipal Golf Course has been a longtime draw for many of the residents.
This area is just west of Mopac, north of Town Lake and south of 35th Street. A few of … (0 comments)

austin realtors: Do you think the classic Drive-In Movie is a thing of the past..? Not anymore because Austin has the Blue Starlite DriveIn! - 06/29/11 11:04 AM
Do you think the classic Drive-In Movie Theater is a thing of the past..? Not anymore, because Austin now has the Blue Starlite Drive In. some of you are doubtless too young to remember the old style drive-in movies. However I have fond memories of the whole family piling into the station wagon and maybe packing a cooler full of Coke and sweet tea. We went to the drive in movies because it was fun for the whole family. Later as teens we would stuff as many friends as possible into the car, because a car "ticket" was only $4. If you went to the … (6 comments)

Today when I logged in I noticed an email from Trulia.com a nationwide home searching site. Now some Realtors feel Truila is the enemy, however I feel they help me reach people with questions. Our goals are really the same, helping people to buy homes they will love living in.  I have been helping people on the site for almost 3 years now and I have gotten some great clients out of it and I have made some wonderful friends. There is a new restaurant in A-town and its called Mama Fu's. This establishment has incorporated good design and wonderful food for an all around perfect dinner or lunch out. They cater and offer delivery and they have 4 locations in Austin.

Today I went to the Mama Fu's location at The Triangle after visiting a condo in The Lofts. Lunch was spectacular. Everything was hot and freshly made. We would have eaten on the lovely sunny patio but today is very windy. So we stayed inside in a cozy booth.

Inside you will notice lots of … (4 comments)

austin realtors: Memories of growing up on the Texas coast - 10/02/09 03:13 AM
As a fifth generation Texan, I have deep ties to this great state. I love being a native Texan, and apparently with the influx of people moving here we may become an endangered species! LOL I want to share one of my favorite childhood memories with you. Growing up on the Gulf Coast was wonderful.
Sometimes on the weekends my grandparents would take us to go "crabbing". Nana would stop by "The Colenal's" and get a bucket of fried chicken for us to have for lunch. Then we would head for the marshy parts of Galveston to collect crabs.
This was a … (14 comments)

austin realtors: Lake Pointe keeps calling to me - 07/14/09 02:08 AM
Often we have pondered the possibility of buying a home closer to the lake. We rationalize it by saying if we are living closer to Lake Travis, we will go sailing more. Our sailboat sits on Lake Travis waiting for us in vain more often than not each weekend. So moving closer sounds reasonable right? My sister in law lives and works in the Uplands, which is closer to the lake. They go skiing a lot and love living in the Uplands. Now this is a great neighborhood, but the 4000+SF homes on one acre lots are just too much for … (0 comments)

austin realtors: The history of Austin's skyscrapers yesterday and today. - 06/26/09 06:53 AM
Now skyscrapers are an everyday sight in Austin Texas, but it was not always so. Construction of Austin's first Austin skyscraper began in early 1910. The building was built by E.M. Scarbourough at the southwest corner of Congress Avenue and 6th Street. The building had eight stories, which seems minuscule by today's standards. This type of construction was so new, that they felt the need to have the Austin American Statesman write an article to explain how it could be so tall and not cave in.
The new Littlefield building claimed the title of tallest downtown building the very next year in … (3 comments)

President Obama has created the $8000 First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit to help stimulate the economy. This $8000 credit is available to first time home buyers and people who have not owned a home in the last three years. To receive this tax credit you must purchase a new home or resale home between January 2009 and November 1, 2009. The home must be your primary residence. There are income restrictions and the maximum tax credit is either $8000 or 10% of the homes value, whichever is less. The combination of the tax credit and the historically low interest rates … (0 comments)

austin realtors: Historic Austin UT area home for sale. Open house on Sunday May 31, 2009 from 12-3!! - 05/30/09 06:01 PM
Historic homes continue to be highly sought after for a number of reasons. They have larger lots, more character and charm than most new construction homes and they are right in the middle of town. It is not uncommon to find original hardwood floors and double hung windows with high ceilings and other period details. Many people seek out these charming homes instead of new construction.
This Sunday I will be holding open an amazing home in the UT area from 12-3. The home is located at 1900 David Street. The lot has numerous 300+ oak trees scattered on the .44 acre lot. … (6 comments)

austin realtors: When is the best time to buy a home in Austin Texas? - 05/21/09 01:19 AM

Clients often ask me "when is the best time to buy a house?" I tell them it depends on a number of factors:
1. Have you spoken to a lender and are you prequalified?
2. Do you have time to actually go look at homes?
3. Are you ready to commit to finding the right home with your Realtor?
4. Are you tired of paying another persons mortgage and helping a stranger build wealth?
5. Are you ready to build your own wealth and receive a tax break?
If you answered yes to those questions, then now is the right … (3 comments)

austin realtors: Looking for an Auditor qualified to perform you City of Austin Energy Audit?? - 05/12/09 03:26 PM

The city of Austin has recently passed the ordinance to require all home sellers to have an "energy audit" prior to selling the home. This ordinance will be required on all homes sold as of June 1st, 2009. They tried to start this back in January 2009, but at that point there were only five licensed auditors. So since there are about 20,000 listings at any given time, those five people would have been overwhelmed. So they set the date back to June 1st 2009, so they had a chance to train more auditors.
There are a few homes that … (2 comments)

austin realtors: The 78749 zip is one of the hottest zip codes in the USA, and it is is in south Austin! - 05/08/09 08:38 AM
Living and working in south Austin I read everything on our market and Austin in general. Recently Forbe's said that the 78749 zip code was one of the most active areas for buying or selling a home in the USA. So I thought I would post some market stats for a couple of the neighborhoods within that zip code.
Maple Run is a popular neighborhood with more affordable homes in the 78749 zip. The homes were mostly built in the mid to late 1980's. There is a good mix of one and two story floor-plans. Most homes are on just under a quarter acre … (6 comments)
