austin tx: Mama Fu's Asian House Cafe Woks the Casbah! New Austin eatery is a big hit! - 11/16/09 02:50 PM

There is a new restaurant in A-town and its called Mama Fu's. This establishment has incorporated good design and wonderful food for an all around perfect dinner or lunch out. They cater and offer delivery and they have 4 locations in Austin.

Today I went to the Mama Fu's location at The Triangle after visiting a condo in The Lofts. Lunch was spectacular. Everything was hot and freshly made. We would have eaten on the lovely sunny patio but today is very windy. So we stayed inside in a cozy booth.

Inside you will notice lots of … (4 comments)

Most of the lots are about a quarter acre, but occasionally you will find larger lots of a 1/3 or 3/4 of an acre. Some have hill country or distant lake views. austin tx: Austin Texas is set to recover from the recession before most of the country! - 09/15/09 04:37 PM
People always ask me how Austin's economy is doing. My answer is while the rest of the country is not faring so well, we seem to be doing fine. Historically Texas is the last state into a recession and the first one to come out of it. Now I have some more solid information to back this up. Recently the Austin Business Journalreported that according to IHS Global Insight of Lexington Massachusetts Austin is poised to be one of the first cities out of the slump.
"Austin and San Antonio will be the first two U.S. cities to recover from the … (7 comments)

austin tx: What does it mean to be "off the grid"? - 06/16/09 06:02 PM
Have you ever considered what it means to "be off the grid"? Most of us try to save energy by cutting off lights when we leave a room or turning the thermostat up when we leave the house. Have you ever considered actually firing the electric company and going off the grid? How much money could you save after the initial cost to install a solar panel system?

According to the New Scientist magazine right now there are about 200,000 homes in the United States alone that are off the grid. I could not find actual numbers for Europe, but … (3 comments)

austin tx: How walkable is your home city? Zilker Park scores 82 out of 100 - 11/28/08 05:12 PM

My hometown is Austin Texas and it is fairly walkable, it really depends on what part of town you live in. If you live downtown or in Zilker or Travis Heights or Hyde Park neighborhoods it is very walkable. My house in Zilker is rated as an 82 out of 100 being a perfect walking city score. If you live in the burbs, you may require a car for those trips to the store. Here is a nifty website to see just how walkable your neighborhood is. www.WalkScore.com.

austin tx: Are there really convicts on convict Hill- Betina's Austin Trivia blog III - 11/20/08 02:50 PM
People always ask me where the convicts are or where the prison is on Convict Hill. Lucky for the people who live in the neighborhood, there is no prison and the convicts are long gone.
It was much different back in the 1880's the cost of labor was astronomical. Consider the going rate of .17 cents per hour to work in a quarry. Well some ingenious person decided that the prison was full of able bodied men who could provide "free" labor. So those prisoners were sent to the area now known as Convict Hill to work in the quarry. The prisoners … (1 comments)
