water conservation: Help Austin conserve water and protect our quality of our drinking water. - 11/19/09 10:40 AM
As a longtime Austin resident I have long been a strong proponent of water conservation. There is a limited supply and we need to do what we can as individuals to save our dwindling natural resources. Until "water Desalinization" becomes less costly and more widely available we all need to take steps to reduce our water usage. Some people in Austin think because we have had a little rain in the last month that they can stop conserving. This is just plain wrong. One month of rain is not enough to pull us out of a multi-year drought. Conservation is still … (2 comments)

water conservation: Easy and free tips to conserve water from your south Austin Realtor, Betina Foreman! - 06/14/09 01:32 PM
During our normal hot Texas summers, we all need to do our part to conserve water. Clean water is a precious commodity that many people take for granted. Here are a few things we can all do to save a little water. Some are logical some sound kind of silly, but each of them save water.

1 Create a rainwater collection system in your yard. You can get rain-barrels from the City of Austin. Use this water to water your lawn or flowers.
2. Always water your lawn/landscape between 9:00pm-9:00am. This reduces the amount of water lost to evaporation. This means … (8 comments)

water conservation: What do Studio 54, Area 51 and Hanger 25 have in common??? - 12/11/08 06:11 PM
What do Studio 54, Area 51 and Hanger 25 have in common? Why they are all cool places to hang out with space age innovations!! Most of you know Studio 54 was the hip happening disco and party ground zero in New York in the 70's. Area 51 is/was the secret space station where aliens were supposedly studied and a secret alien aircraft was stored. Hanger 25 you ask, why that is the cool new "green" airport hanger in Los Angles!

Hanger 25 reportedly cost about $17 million dollars and has the latest space age"green" technology! … (3 comments)

water conservation: Cool House Tour 2008 - 07/31/08 01:00 PM
Like many Austinites I participated in the "Cool House Tour 2008". This is an event that allows the public to buy a ticket and see the most cutting edge innovations in Green Building. You can only buy tickets at Central Market.  This year the south location was sold out by 10:15 am, so this event draws a loyal and large crowd. Often you may have to wait to see a house because the interest is so great. All of the homes were spectacular in their own way. There were 21 homes on the tour this year. The event is produced by Texas … (0 comments)

water conservation: Things to know before you buy a property with a Septic System - 07/23/08 01:24 PM
Some people find it odd in this day and age to have homes that rely on septic systems for wastewater removal. However a septic system is really the only way to be fully responsible for your own waste-water and water usage. Instead of paying someone else (the water utility) to remove the waste-water and process and store it, you are doing it all yourself. It sounds like a big job, but its really not. If you can remember a few key points it is very easy.
1. The average life of a septic system is 25-35 years. However I have seen a … (3 comments)
