bettys personal touch: Adapting To Your New Neighbourhood - 07/27/11 08:33 PM
Here we are in the middle of July and we are all enjoying a wonderful start to the summer. If you were among the thousands who moved at the end of June/beginning of July, you are now probably just starting to make a small dent in all the boxes that came with you. At the same time, you're keeping your family busy and happy.Moving can be a huge upheaval to a family. You are in new surroundings and trying to adapt to new social activities. Everyone always says, 'moving wasn't so bad'. Or a Realtor will tell you, 'let me make

bettys personal touch: Penalties When Breaking A Closed Mortgage - 04/25/11 08:44 PM
This article in Moneyville in the Toronto Star, is a great piece about the mortgage penalties associated with breaking your closed mortgage, an issue that is very prevalent today. Most clients don't anticipate the high amounts that they have to pay out in penalties when they decide to refinance or sell their homes, as these numbers are not standardized across the different lenders, nor are these figures disclosed at the time of signing. Banks have always encouraged clients to go into five year fixed rate mortgage terms, yet the average time a Canadian will stay in a fixed mortgage term is

bettys personal touch: Buyers Representation Agreement - 03/30/11 09:21 AM
As I was driving to my appointment with my buyers this evening, I heard a great commercial. It talked about the Buyer Representation Agreement. That was great for me, because it supported what I try to explain to my buyers at the first meeting. Since I've become a licenced real estate agent, I have known that I should be working only with buyers who sign an agency agreement. Those are the clients that deserve my time and effort. At times, I have become complacent and trusting. I don't want to lose a Buyer by asking them to sign the Agreement. Some

bettys personal touch: First Impressions In Real Estate - 03/17/11 08:41 PM
In a hot spring real estate market, even homes that don't give the greatest first impression will sell. As the Spring market starts to cool, the listings that show well will be the ones that sell faster and for a better price. A house that isn't properly prepared may struggle to sell. Staging and preparing a home for sale is more critical now than ever before. While interior decorating concentrates on making people feel more at home in their interior space, the objective of staging is to make the home more marketable inside and outside. Staging usually involves getting rid of clutter

This article should be useful to many of us. Thank you to Kristian Harris of Monster Mortgage for this information. How many credit card offers do you think you received in the mail this past month? bettys personal touch: Improve Your Credit Score, Mississauga Homes For Sale - 02/22/11 08:50 PM
Over the last few months, I have been gathering information about Credit Scores. The conversation comes up quite often now that I have children that have graduated, or are close to doing so, and are heading out into the working world. I have chatted with brokers on how to maintain a good credit score. I have suggested to my clients about how to repair their credit scores.I have had clients that have had a poor credit score. With proper guidance from a financial expert, the credit scores have been improved and the final result was the purchase of a home. Many clients

bettys personal touch: Money Management - Portfolio Check Up - 11/29/10 08:59 PM
As we get closer to the end of 2010, it's time to think about the changes that we will be making with our finances and investments. What a great time to talk to John Scholl to discuss our options. Here is another article that John is sharing with us:Your personal health is important to you. That's why you have periodic check-ups, follow your doctor's recommendations on diet and exercise, and take your medications. Your financial life is also important to you. That's why you should periodically perform a portfolio check-up and follow this prescription for maintaining its health. Why a check-up? For

bettys personal touch: 905 Specialist - 11/28/10 07:17 PM
What makes someone your neighbourhood specialist? I am a specialist in the 905 area, but not the entire 905. In my experience in real estate sales, I have concentrated my energy to see every available home that is possible for me to see and compare. So in reality I need to concentrate and specialize on specific communities within the 905. This gives me the time to do extensive research on these particular neighbourhoods so that I can best serve both buyers and sellers with information about a community and the people. Viewing potential homes outside my comfort zone, will not help

bettys personal touch: Bank of Canada Says ... - 11/10/10 03:09 PM
The last couple of days I've been getting a lot of updates about the slowdown of the housing market and interest rates. I read the Toronto Star every morning and I have done so for years. My my hubbie got me into it. Guess what I saw, big headlines about "NO BUBBLE BREWING" by Tony Wong. The article goes on to explain why - Canadians have binged on low interest rates, pushing up prices to levels that are now moderately overvalued. Average housing prices are about 11% overvalued, but the market is not experiencing a bubble and is unlikely to suffer

bettys personal touch: Managing Your Money, Mississauga - 09/26/10 07:54 PM
Once again, John Scholl has provided a very interesting article regarding financing so that I can pass it along to all of you. We're all very concerned about what's going on with the economy at this time. We hear different stories of what to do with our finances. This is some sound advice. Here it is:From John Scholl: Thought I'd better pass you another Managing your Money column. This has to do with the income tested pension credits and OAS and how to avoid the clawback. You know on one hand the CRA says we have the right to organize our

bettys personal touch: Mortgage Rates Update - 07/21/10 08:41 PM
By now we have all heard that the Bank of Canada has raised the interest rate another quarter point. It was in the paper early this morning. The prediction is that it will go up some more by the end of the year.As I have been telling my buyers, this is an opportune time to purchase a home and still get a great interest rate. Do this before rates go up some more. There are plenty of homes on the market so there is choice. With many enjoying the holiday season and all the activities that come with the summer, it

bettys personal touch: Congrats To All University and College Grads - 06/17/10 09:16 PM
Well, folks! One of my 'children' has gone and done it! She graduated University of Guelph. Got her Honours Degree in Science -- Earth Sciences to be exact. Loaded my small family in the car early this morning to get to the ceremony on time and headed out. We had great seats. The Piper led the faculty in, followed by the graduates of that particular day/time slot. The first thing noticed was, "where are all the guys"? Not many in this time slot. Parents all around us and it was a shame that we were only allowed 3 guests. Some families

bettys personal touch: Welcome To The First Long Weekend of Summer 2010 - 05/20/10 09:56 PM
Well, here we go!!! The first long-awaited weekend for the year is finally here. The weatherman hasn't given us too much good news about the weather, but who cares! We all know that we'll be able to spend some time with family and friends. The garden centres will be extremely busy. I was at Sheridan Nurseries earlier this week and the staff was out in full and they were like busy little bees putting out plants, watering and getting things ready for the shoppers. I must say, I have participated in previous years, but I have now learned to wait another

bettys personal touch: Market Watch, Mississauga Real Estate - 05/05/10 08:42 PM
More and more news about the housing market. Here is the most up-to-date Market Watch information. What's going on? Well, homes are selling, there's not enough inventory, buyers are looking for deals, and the list goes on. Multiple offers are still happening but not at the same pace. I am still having trouble finding new listings. With the numbers that the Market Watch is showing, I often wonder why my buyers are waiting. Yes, interest have risen (they always do this time of year) but if you are well prepared and have spoken to your mortgage advisor, then you should be
