humboldt county ca: Ringing in the New Year Humboldt County CA Style - Dungenous Crab and Champagne! - 01/03/09 01:23 PM
It's tradition for Humboldt County folks to celebrate the Christmas holiday not only with Ham, but Crab too.  Same goes for New Years.  So this year Dave and I rung in the New Year with fresh, succulent dungenous crab that we bought right off the crab boats docked here in Humboldt Bay.
What a way to ring in the new year!
One of my favorite things I love about living in Humboldt County CA is the fresh seafood we get to eat throughout the year.  At this point I just break it down into seasons.

There's the Salmon season … (9 comments)

humboldt county ca: The Life of a Realtor Focused on Building her Business - I'm my own boss, assistant, marketer, etc. - 12/10/08 10:51 AM
First of all I want to apologize for ducking out of Active Rain for a while, but I've been working on several local projects to try to build my business.  Which leads me in to blogging about my life as a Realtor building my business one day at a time.
They say it can take up to 5 years to really get a good flowing business.  Where some of your past performance and investment finally start to pay off.  We all want a business built on referrals, but as many of us learn...You have to invest the time and money to … (13 comments)

humboldt county ca: Humboldt County CA Daily Newspaper Wars are Over - Local Upstart Eureka Reporter Closes its Doors - 11/06/08 10:05 PM
I was saddened when I saw the front page of the Eureka Reporter today.  No more will we have two competing daily newspapers in Humboldt County CA.  The daily paper created by local Rob Arkley will cease to exist after it's last edition comes out this coming Saturday.
I remember the day that the Eureka Reporter started cranking out news and they were seen as serious competition for the Times Standard, then the only game in town.  And it was an incredible sight to see two daily newspapers compete in an already media saturated market (Humboldt County) that serves a small … (2 comments)

humboldt county ca: Humboldt County CA Real Estate Buyers - Time to Update that Pre-Approval or Pre-Qualification Letter Before You Buy a Home. - 11/04/08 07:47 PM
As many of you know, the lending world has been pretty unpredictable lately.  What may have been ok with your lender 6 months or even 2 months ago may have changed.  So as a buyer in Humboldt County California, if you took a break from your home search to see where the market will end up and are ready to start looking again (because there are more homes to choose from in your price range), it’s a good idea to sit down with your lender to see if you still qualify for the same loan product.
Lenders have tightened up tremendously … (0 comments)

humboldt county ca: How Much Can I Sell My Home for in Today’s Humboldt County CA Real Estate Market? Are Online Searches enough? - 10/29/08 04:01 PM
With all the resources out there on the web and locally, such as Zillow, Suddenlink Home Source (Channel 4) and public access to the Multiple Listing Service, as a home owner in Humboldt County California you would think that all that information would be enough to determine how much you could sell your home for in today’s real estate market. On one hand the tools I mentioned above will help you get a sense about where our Humboldt County California real estate market is headed, but it’s difficult to determine what price your home should be listed at to compete with similar … (4 comments)

humboldt county ca: Humboldt County CA: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle –Green Tips for Humboldt County California Living - 10/05/08 07:36 PM
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle –Green Tips for Humboldt County California LivingThe current discussion with Eureka City Council, here in Eureka California is “Mandatory Garbage/Recycling Pickup”.  Now I know it hasn’t been implemented yet, and there are mixed feelings from the local community about making garbage and recycling roadside pickup mandatory, primarily because you will be billed for the service whether you use it or not.  But the city is moving in that direction in an effort to reduce waste to it's landfills as well as deter illegal dumping.Personally the idea doesn’t bother me much, because Dave and I make a huge effort … (11 comments)
