There have been lots of rumors circulating everywhere and anywhere about how the new stimulus plan is going to affect home buyers and sellers. The best rumor that I heard so far (In My Opinion) is that the latest bill contains a provision that allows a person who purchases a home within the next year to earn a $15,000 tax credit that does NOT have to be paid back as long as certain conditions are met. stimulus: First Time Home Buyer $7500 Tax Credit or Interest Free Loan? How do you Interpret it? - 01/31/09 06:53 PM
From what I understand, the way the current bill/law reads is that the so-called $7500 tax credit for first time home buyers (that they can claim on their taxes when they file) is really merely a 15 year interest free loan from the government. They can get the $7500, but they have to pay back $500 of it every year on their taxes for the next 15 years starting in 2010.
However, if the new bill that has been passed in the house and is going to the senate is passed (from what I understand) the repayment requirement will be wiped out and it will … (5 comments)
