To help homeowners deal with large assessment increases (that were experienced during the boom years), Maryland State Law has established the Homestead Property Tax Credit.  The Homestead Credit limits or caps the increase in taxable assessments each year to a fixed percentage.  Every County and Municipality in Maryland is required to set a Homestead cap that limits taxable assessment increases to 10% or less each year.  NOTE - The Homestead Tax Credit applies only to the principal residence of the property owner and is based on the total market value for the dwelling and land associated with that dwelling.

tax: HOW TO FILE AN APPEAL TO YOUR PROPERTY TAX ASSESSMENT NOTICE IN MARYLAND - 01/03/09 06:35 PM
Maryland State Law requires that all real property be revalued at least every three years.  If you feel that your property's Total New Market Value is incorrect, you have the right to appeal your tax assessment notice.  A three step appeal process is available to protect the property owner from an incorrect assessment.  The first level appeal is with the local assessment office.  The second and third level appeals are with the Property Tax Assessment Appeal Boards and the Maryland Tax Court.  These are independant agencies that are copmletely separate from the Department of Assessments and Taxation.  At each level in … (0 comments)

Did you get your NEW Baltimore County Tax Assessment Notice for 2009in the mail?  I did and let me tell you, I was surprised to see how much they actually lowered my assessed value.  However, IMO (In My Opinion) it is not low enough considering the recent sales activity in my immediate neighborhood area.
SO WHAT DO YOU DO IF YOU FEEL YOUR BALTIMORE COUNTY PROPERTY TAX ASSESSMENT IS TOO HIGH?
