OUR GOVERNMENT -- JOHN ADAMS - 05/31/10 12:33 PM
My friend, Walter Hammock is one of my nominees for 2010 for the Texas Radio Hall of Fame. Walter is a fine student of American history and the Bible. He sent this to his friends today. I think it is right on target. "We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any (4 comments)
UPDATE - AUGUST 16, 2010 KEN LANYON1940 - 2010 ======================= That's my friend Ken Lanyon, in the center, who was his high school class president in 1958. Less than a five finger count of the years after this photo was taken, he had this experience:
"Few of you know that I happened to be very near the Texas School Book Depository when the shooting took place and I may have been one of the first 6 or 8 people to enter the building following the shooting and may well have passed Oswald in the turmoil. The entire city of Dallas immediately (9 comments)
JAZZ'S MOST FAMOUS EDUCATOR, DR. LEON BREEDEN Over the years, I have written a number of pieces about Dr. Leon Breeden, whose University of North Texas 1 O'clock Lab Band played for U.S. presidents, foreign countries' kings and queens, and ordinary jazz lovers all over the world, during his twenty or so year history with the University. He's had a great influence on my life throughout our 50-year friendship, although I have never studied under him and I was never offered the opportunity to so much as to sit in during a set, playing the piano or Hammond B-3, with one of (3 comments)

TEXAS RADIO HALL OF FAME - HEADQUARTERED IN DALLAS - 05/28/10 05:16 PM
The Texas Radio of Fame was founded with seventeen original directors*, but primarily with the insistence of Larry Shannon, himself a radio great. The year was 2002, and I have the honor of being the "Premier Member #96." I am very honored to have been sponsored by one of the most famous of all of the DJs of the Gordon McLendon era, Chuck Dunaway. I had worked in broadcasting as an avocation for forty-eight years, the most memorable for me was as host of the iconic "American Airlines Music ‘til Dawn" when I was a student at Tulane University in New Orleans. THE REALTOR OPEN HOUSE - WHO CAME ON MAY 25TH - SOME OBSERVATIONS - 05/26/10 09:03 AM
In the Realtor association that serves the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, at last report there were more than 14,000 agents. I have no clue what percentage of those agents serve Dallas, however, just shy of 1,000 claim their primary market interest to be Dallas' Park Cities. The Park Cities is normally considered to be comprised of Highland Park and University Park. Lots of homes, surely the major portion having a market value of in excess of $1 million with a substantial portion being worth more than $10 million. When times were good and mortgage money flowed freely, people on an Income Stream (4 comments)

They are all set on the strong pier and beam foundation of the original home. All four of the bedrooms and four baths are on the second floor, (4 comments)
THE LORD OF THE JUNGLE WAS ALSO A MEMBER OF THE TEXAS BAR ASSOCIATION By Bill Cherry I suppose there is a good percentage of Texans who had never heard of John O'Quinn. He was a Houston attorney who was killed in an automobile accident on October 29, 2009, at the age of 68. <==JOHN O'QUINN (photo by Pam Frances Photographer, used with permission) O'Quinn was a man who made clients and himself rich while leaving companies like Wyeth Laboratories, Dow Corning and the tobacco industry's treasuries in shambles, as juries awarded his clients billions. In fact, those who keep (7 comments)
This is my friend, Harry Mc Carley, who in real life is a clerk at the counter of the Ferndale branch of the Lake Highlands post office. And he's a good one. I make special trips there because I like him and his counter partner, Janet Jackson. Harry's been thinking about what he'll do when he retires. "I'm not going to sit around like my daddy did," he told me. When I went in today to get stamps, Harry said, "I've hit it! The perfect idea!" So it (4 comments)
OPEN HOUSE 2 TO 4 SUNDAY, MAY 23RD $1,875,000 My associate, Ashley Dugas, and I will be there to welcome visitors and Realtors who would like to tour our excellent 5,700 square foot home listing in prestigous Highland Park. Beautiful curb appeal, and with open flame gas lights providing the soft lit shadows that frame the entrance, the interior itself couldn't be more spectacular. One of the architectural "tricks" that seems to be so hard for designers to execute is to have the living areas of a home feel comfortable when there is a crowd of fifty sharing cocktails and (2 comments)
GRAND GATHERINGS -- THE GRAND 1894 OPERA HOUSE -- GALVESTON ISLAND - 05/19/10 11:55 PM
The history of the reclamation and restoration of Galveston Island's Grand 1894 Opera House is a true star in the hat of historic preservation. Under the leadership of executive director Maureen Patton, this fine Galveston architectural bookmark has been hosting great national and international talent for over thirty years. Of course the miracle is that funds have been raised every year to supplement ticket sales so that the Grand has managed to stay in the black. One of the great events of each year is called GRAND GATHERINGS: A SERIES OF CULINARY EVENTS. This year they begin Saturday, June 5th, (3 comments)
WHAT I BRING MY BUYERS THE DAY AFTER THEY MOVE IN... - 05/14/10 07:08 AM
Perhaps it's because I like to cook. Or maybe it's because I like to share a dish that our family and guests especially enjoy. Nevertheless, I've found that my clients seem to especially appreciate it when I make something just for them. Here's one that is easy, you can't mess up, but still brings rave reviews.
Gâteau au Fromage Artillerie Club
The Artillery Club is the oldest men’s private club west of the Mississippi. It was incorporated about two years prior to the Civil War for the purpose of protecting Galveston Island.
NOTICE ANYTHING STRANGE ABOUT THIS DALLAS POST OFFICE STATION?
HOW ABOUT NOW? Perhaps this is the coming business co-op marketing strategy. Oh, gee, I hope so. It makes my mouth water to think about how I'd love to put my BILL CHERRY, REALTORS signs in front of all of the Re/Max and Ebby offices in Dallas. SO WHAT'S UP WITH THE WAY SOME AGENTS SHOW CO-OP LISTINGS? - 05/09/10 08:06 PM
I'll admit that in prior years, I rarely if ever accompanied an MLS co-op agent when they showed one of my listings. But in recent months I've been there in at least 80% of the time to welcome the co-op agent and his clients. So here are my questions: How does an agent demonstrate my listing when they are on their cell phone as they walk in the door and are still on it as they and their clients leave? How does an agent demonstrate my listing when they do nothing but quickly lead their clients from room to room, restricting their (4 comments)
RASCAL MC CASKILL ADDRESSES THE OIL SPILL WITH AN INTERESTING EQUATION - 05/05/10 09:15 AM
WILLIAM A. "RASCAL" MC CASKILL I've written blogs about a disc jockey of the 1950s who became somewhat of a mentor to me then, and has for the following fifty years. His name is William A. McCaskill, but his radio name was a clever rhyme "Rascal McCaskill." Now in his eighties, he has survived multiple heart problems, gets around almost as well as he always did, and his brain cells are still high IQ. Let me give you an example. He loves puzzles -- math problems, memory exercises -- and nothing seems to please him more than to send me one (12 comments)
