How to Price-check Central Air-Heat Replacement - 04/28/11 09:42 AM
It has always been difficult to price shop the replacement of central air and heat equipment.  It's not at all like it was when people primarily cooled their homes with window units and heated them from a separate forced air furnace.
In the window unit days, 12,500 was the size of a ton, and you knew if Carrier had a 1 ton unit for $500 and GE had one for $450, Carrier's was the cheaper.
That's not the case with central equipment.
Within the past several years, I've noticed the Dallas-Ft. Worth central air and heat contractors have become more and … (1 comments)

I WAS THINKING...MAYBE IT'S ALWAYS BEEN THIS WAY... - 04/23/11 08:42 AM
Maybe it's always been this way.  Who's to say?
It's reasonable to assume that most home sellers pick their Favorite Agent to list their home.
Wouldn't you agree?
But here's where the twist comes.
Between the seller and his agent, a listing price is chosen.
And if the Favorite Agent is a good one, and most are, through market research of recent sales of homes that are similar, that picked listing price is within the ballpark.

WE'RE GONNA HAVE NEW RULES AROUND HERE! - 04/09/11 09:51 AM
I've been annoyed by this for years, but I've never put my foot down.
This time I am.  Things are going to be different around here.
So here's my diatribe.
I'm tired of manufacturers who segregate their products in such a way that the public has no way to comparison shop.  Maytag refrigerators sold by Lowes have model numbers that are not carried by other retailers, for an example.
And my favorite:  Carpet and other flooring material that are sold by decorators and specialty shops that, although products of Mohawk, Shaws, and other mainstream manufacturers, cannot be bought at the corner carpet shop.

OLGA KERN - PERHAPS THE WORLD'S MOST IMPORTANT PIANIST - 04/03/11 11:55 PM

OLGA KERN
Olga Kern is a 36-year old Russian born pianist whose family tree traces back to Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff, which may have a lot to do with explaining who she is and why.
Ms. Kern won the 2001 Van Clibutn Competition and since then has soloed with major symphonies all over the world. She's won major awards and secured outstanding reviews, one after another, along the way.
I have studied classical music performance since childhood, so that counts back at least 60 years.  And, although I've never been a classical pianist, I've been a competent jazz pianist for almost … (1 comments)
