church of the incarnation: SUNDAY IN THE PARK - DECEMBER 19, 20910 EDITION - 12/19/10 10:30 AM
SUNDAY IN THE PARK December 19, 2010 Thanks for joining me this Sunday in the park as we prepare for the Christmas and the beginning of the year of 2011. - Bill Cherry Church of the Incarnation. Our Episcopal church in uptown Dallas (3966 McKinney) is especially traditional in its ceremonies. While there will be seven services beginning Christmas Eve and ending Christmas day, our favorite is always the one that begins at 11 p.m. Christmas Eve. It's a solemn Eucharist with incense, the big choir and organ, along with brass instruments. We'll be there. You're welcome to come, too.

church of the incarnation: SUNDAY IN THE PARK - December 12, 2010 Edition - 12/12/10 12:07 AM
SUNDAY IN THE PARK December 12, 2010 I can't help but smile as Patty and I drive during Christmas time through the streets of Dallas. It's the personal interpretation each family has injected with lights and wreaths and blow-up Santa Clauses to appropriately decorate their homes that makes me smile. Some are formal, tailored and beautiful just as they are. Others have so much stuff in the yard, on the roof, in the windows and hanging on the door that they are outrageous but fun nevertheless. Thanks for joining me this Sunday in the park as we prepare for the

church of the incarnation: CHURCH OF THE INCARNATION - DALLAS - 06/13/10 10:55 PM
Interestingly two of the largest Episcopal Church congregations in the U.S. are in Dallas, Texas. They are Saint Michael and All Angels, and Church of the Incarnation. Both have extremely loyal memberships. So loyal, in fact, that it is not unusual for all of the Sunday services at each church to be full or nearly full. And both have a large number of participatory programs during the week. Church of the Incarnation follows the Anglican traditions. Although I was raised in a less formal church in Galveston, Trinity Episcopal, I found myself gravitating to the Anglican tradition when I began going

church of the incarnation: Dr. Stanley Hauerwas -- A Total Bore - 03/07/10 11:32 PM
I recently wrote a piece for Active Rain for the purpose of letting those living in Dallas know that a famous American theologian and Duke University professor named Stanley Hauerwas would be giving several lectures at my church, The Episcopal Church of the Incarnation. (Click here to read it: Stanley Hauerwas.) Last evening Patty and I invited our friends, John and Cindi Burnside, to join us for an early dinner and then a quick trip to Incarnation for the service and the performance of Dr. Hauerwas. Dr. Hauerwas was ill-prepared, he rambled, he wouldn't look at his audience, he used vulgar

church of the incarnation: STANLEY HAUERWAS -- "America's Best Theologian": Time Magazine - 02/21/10 09:51 PM
DR. STANLEY HAUERWAS"America's Best Theologian" - Time Magazine I admit to being a serious student of many disciplines, overfed by an abundant curiosity that I inherited from my mother and father. That was and remains compounded by the revelations of profound "stars of the universe" shown me by professors, clergy, relatives and friends. Stanley Hauerwas is Professor of Theological Ethics at Duke University. He has written more than thirty books, and he lectures to clergy, physicians, lawyers and the rest of us through speeches and seminars that are regularly held throughout the U.S. Dr. Hauerwas, who is my age, has been invited to

church of the incarnation: EVENSONG - A SERVICE DATING BACK TO THE MID-1600S - 10/22/07 04:19 PM
The Church of the Incarnation is an Episcopal church in downtown Dallas with a membership of some 5,000. The church is of gothic revival architecture. Congregants worship among glorious stained glass windows and the superior fullness of an organ that boasts more than 4,000 pipes. With frequency, members of other denominations join Incarnation members for a service held each Sunday at 5 PM. It is known as Evensong. The tradition of Evensong, which dates back to the middle 1600s, is totally sung by Incarnation’s exceptional choir. The big organ’s background accentuates the loveliness of the service. The Holy Eucharist, as a short additional service,

church of the incarnation: Austin Street Shelter with Harry and Bubba - 09/29/07 05:12 AM
Carrying in loads of aluminum trays of noodles loaded with chicken, mountains of green salad and hot vegetables, fresh rolls by the hundreds along with multiple gallons of milk, orange juice and lemonade, and package after package of cookies for dessert, we arrived at the Austin Street Shelter within the deepest of the bowels of downtown Dallas. Two hours before, our washing machine had frozen on it annual "won't run after it's filled itself to the brim with water" position. That had been the last straw for Patty and me as we had tried to traverse through the one crisis
