dallas: 3405 SAINT JOHNS DRIVE - HIGHLAND PARK - FOR LEASE: $8,500 per month - 06/28/11 12:16 PM
3405 Saint Johns Drive - Highland Park - Texas $8,500 PER MONTH 2 YEAR LEASE ********** The room flow of this charming home is extraordinary. Somehow the architect did what is almost the impossible. He figured out how to make the home not feel cavernous when one or two or the whole family is moving about downstairs, but also not to feel crowded when there's a cocktail party for fifty or more. There is an extraordinary kitchen -- and it's extraordinary because it was planned, designed and fitted by a trained chef, one of the present owners. Viking range, convection

dallas: SO WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON IN THE PARK CITIES MARKETS? - 01/29/11 09:51 AM
One could spend a great deal of time gathering and analyzing the statistical information that can be acquired by members of the Multiple Listing Service that serves Dallas. I'm especially interested in what goes on in the Dallas Park Cities, more specifically within two zip codes - 75205 which primarily serves Highland Park, and 75225 which primarily serves University Park. And they are interesting to compare and contrast. Today, Saturday, January 29, 2011, here's what I learned as I called up those properties that are on the market now, and those that have sold within the past 6 months for $1,000,000 or

dallas: Houston & Dallas Predictions for Home Value Increases Are Good - 09/28/10 06:18 PM
There is a real estate research reporting service known as Veros Real Estate Solutions, that has been looking at the components that make-up a real estate recovery scenario. Their recent report shows that the Houston area will probably have the greatest home price appreciation over the next year with Dallas ranking second. They estimate that Houston's price growth will be about 4 % while Dallas' will be about 3%. In the case of Houston, in comparison to the rest of the nation, unemployment for August was only 8.7%, and while that is a far cry from the rate just five years

You can see how spacious the dining room is, easily accomodates a nice size formal dinner gathering. To your right is the foyer and living room. Homeowners in Highland Park frequently have gatherings for a large number of guests. The kitchens must have

dallas: How Did Texas Home Sales Do in January 2010? - 02/26/10 09:37 PM
Every month, the Real Estate Research Center at Texas A&M University collects the data to provide a spyglass view of what's been going on in the real estate market and compares it to the past. Amarillo, Dallas, El Paso, Houston, McAllen and the rest of Texas have shown a marginal increase over the same period from 2009. Every area, however, has at least a 6 month (rounded) supply of inventory with McAllen topping the list at 13.5% followed by San Antonio and El Paso, each at 7.5%. Interestingly, it appears that demand is stonger than one might conclude. The criteria to

dallas: Our Christmas - 12/25/09 10:52 AM
MERRY DALLAS WHITE CHRISTMAS FROM THE CHERRYS Snow began falling Christmas Eve about noon, and the flurries continued through the remainder of the day and into the night. We went to a 5 o'clock service to celebrate the birth of Jesus and the message He left behind. Then to the family dinner hosted at their home by Patty's son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Susan Norman. There were six adults along with three of the children. Randy and Susan are both accomplished chefs, so you can imagine the spread. My famous "Hit 'em Up, Knock Their Socks Off Eggnog" had

dallas: DALLAS PUMPKIN PATCH -- ST. JAMES EPISCOPAL CHURCH - 10/09/08 07:23 PM
Every year, Saint James Episcopal Church on Audelia at McCree, a few blocks north of Northwest Highway, stages its famous Pumpkin Patch. Thousands of fresh pumpkins will be sold. Pumpkins of every size and shape. This is a joint venture between the church and a New Mexico Indian tribe. The Indians plant, grow and harvest the pumpkins, and then they are shipped in two big loads to St. James where they are sold by volunteers. The entire net portion of the sales retained by Saint James goes to fund its youth ministry, which not only includes its Dallas activities, but its missionary trips. The

dallas: Marketing Tear Downs in Dallas: An Interesting Approach - 07/29/08 06:47 AM
Oft times I wonder what was going on in someone's mind that preceded and caused their decision and actions. In Dallas, we have a handful of real estate companies that primarily list and sell estates, and most of those estates are in an area called the Park Cities. Frequently, one of these companies will list an outdated home that is on a valuable lot. Rather than give prospective buyers a chance to decide for themselves, the MLS listing will not show a photo of the home, but will give the dimensions of the rooms, etc., then announce that the "value is

dallas: De Beers - A Home Run or An Out? - 04/29/08 11:09 PM
You probably know about De Beers. It's the privately held company that Cecil Rhodes founded in the late 1800s that virtually controls the exploration and mining of diamonds. And by controlling their mining activity, they significantly influence the value of diamonds, including the one your son gave his bride-to-be for her engagement ring. They employ nearly 25,000 and their revenues exceed $7 billion a year. Recently they opened a small boutique gallery in Dallas' NorthPark very near Neiman-Marcus on the concourse to Barneys and Nordstrom. If you are in Dallas, you must schedule a trip to see it because its store design concept

dallas: OLD HABITS ARE HARD TO BREAK -- ESPECIALLY HOW YOU PICK YOUR REALTOR - 03/18/08 11:04 PM
Old habits are frequently hard to break. One that often shows up is the idea that one or two real estate companies or one or two real estate agents have all of the clients for a particular neighborhood. So rather than intellectually evaluate what they have to offer and how well it will benefit a prospective seller, the seller will default to "they sell all of the property around here," then list with one of them. If you're getting ready to go down that road, or if you already have and your home is sitting there unsold, you might get better results if you

dallas: MY SUBDIVISION'S REAL ESTATE MYSTERY - 03/09/08 11:02 PM
One of my competitors attracted a listing in my subdivision several months back. I can't help but look at this package when I drive in and out. As the listing has ticked along, a homemade lattice baffle around the air conditioning's compressor has blown over. Day after day, it lies on the ground. It's been just like that for more than a month. For periods of a week or more at a time, the agent's sign will sit with tall grass and weeds growing up the stakes. Either he doesn't check or personally show his listing, or he doesn't see the need

dallas: DALLAS HOMES - REALTOR BILL CHERRY - 02/03/08 07:30 AM
Many of those who ran the big braggadocios ads about their Dallas real estate sales expertise are evaporating into thin air. In reality, their real estate prowess was nothing more than an aberration. Honest to goodness, it was just an aberration. Would you believe that some of them have scores of Park Cities listings that have gone unsold for months and months? How'd you like to be the owner who's stuck with a 2 million buck mansion that your agent with the big new Lexus and hair-do from Osgood O'Neil can't sell? Have you tried to get her off of the Blackberry

dallas: SUNDAY IN THE PARK, 10th Edition, By Dallas Realtor Bill Cherry - 12/16/07 12:41 PM
Bluetooth. For years and years, in fact maybe centuries, men have had a far more chance of developing hearing loss than women. And for every single one of those years, men have been trying to hide that it has happened to them. The only hearing aid that will ever be fully acceptable is one that can be stuffed so far down in the ear canal that only the guy and his doc know he has one. Isn't it a paradox that it is fashionable to have one of those enormous Bluetooth phone contraptions hanging off of the same guy's ear who needs

dallas: AMERICAN AIRLINES' "MUSIC 'TIL DAWN" PROVIDES BUSINESS MODEL FOR REALTORS - 10/23/07 12:15 AM
There was a time when American Airlines was one of the most respected passenger carriers in the United States. I'm talking about a time when fares were regulated and the number of direct flights was far less than today. In the 1950s, American Airlines advertising and marketing consultants came up with a brilliant idea. The company would broadcast a nightly program on the biggest radio station in each market the carrier served. Dallas, Chicago, New Orleans, Los Angeles, New York, Washington, D.C. The list goes on. It would be called "American Airlines' Music ‘til Dawn," and it

dallas: TIFFANY & COMPANY - AN EXTRAORDINARY DESIGN COMPLETED - 09/17/07 04:24 PM
Recently Tiffany revealed their totally remodeled and refixtured store in the NorthPark Shopping Center here in Dallas. I've been studying retail design and fixturing for many years...more as an observer than a participant. This design ranks among the top 5 I've seen throughout the United States. Interestingly, the former store was tired, dated and usually had long periods throughout the day when there were no customers inside at all. I was confident that the store was not meeting its maximum expectations in sales. Well, now the store totally vibrates with activity, and the sales people are busy and smiling. I commend this to those of

dallas: FUNNY MONEY LOANS IN HIGHLAND PARK? COULD IT REALLY BE? - 09/11/07 09:27 PM
There is a real city in the middle of Dallas known as Highland Park, and the U.S. Census proclaimed that it is the 19th wealthiest among U.S. cities with populations over 1,000, and the 4th wealthiest in Texas by per capita income. About 10,000 people live there. The median income for a household in the town is $149,389, and the median income for a family is $200,000. The MLS is reporting today that in Higland Park there are 105 homes for sale beginning at $1.225 million, and going all the way up to $18.5 million. What do you suppose is going on here? How are these

dallas: Joe Pajucie, His Cheap Looking Girls and Macino Rapuchi, the International Continental Stylist - 09/03/07 10:53 PM
Gigs for Italian singers had been terrible for a long time. But then out of nowhere came "That's Amore," "Mel Blu di Pinto di Blue," and "Al di La." And things got very good for them. And that's when Macino Rapuchi, with his invented star-studded billing, "the International Continental Stylist," hit Dallas with his guitar and accordion, and found his way to headline at Gringo's. For the first time in a long time, business at the club got really good, and it was because Macino knew those songs, and he sang them over and over again as he paraded around the room strumming

dallas: Slaves Built and Paid for Their Own Churches - A Revolutionary Idea - Realtor Bill Cherry - 08/07/07 06:20 AM
By Bill Cherry, Dallas Broker-Realtor My 43rd Year Selling Texas www.billcherrybroker.com Galveston, Texas, one of the oldest citiies in Texas, had barely been settled by businessmen and their families when they decided that slaves should have the benefit of churches of their own. That was quite a revolutionary idea back then. But rather than build churches for them, "masters" instead helped their slaves earn the money to buy the property and then to build the church buildings themselves. And let me tell you, Galvestonians, both black and white, have always been proud of that unusual bit of history. The oldest of those churches is the Reedy Chapel
