galveston island: BILL CHERRY'S MEMORIES -- ON TV - 08/23/11 08:06 PM
BILL CHERRY'S MEMORIES ON TV Many know that I have written about 700 pieces about the history of Galveston and its people. From those came an anthology of about 60 which was published as a book in 2000 by VanJus Press. Titled Bill Cherry's Galveston Memories, it has sold many thousands. Nevertheless, I chose not to do a second printing. Today, used copies sell on amazon.com for nearly 100 bucks; new copies, when available bring more than $300. The cover price is $19.95. galveston island: GRAND GATHERINGS -- THE GRAND 1894 OPERA HOUSE -- GALVESTON ISLAND - 05/19/10 11:55 PM
The history of the reclamation and restoration of Galveston Island's Grand 1894 Opera House is a true star in the hat of historic preservation. But Galveston recovered and handled storm after storm unil September 2008...almost to the day 108 years after the 1900 Storm came ashore. That's when Hurricane Ike struck. Even in spite of the long concrete seawall that

galveston island: THE PIRATE JEAN LAFITTE WAS REALLY MORTIMER WILSON - 05/31/07 10:38 PM
Galveston's Pirate Jean Lafitte Was a Fraud. He Was Really Mortimer Wilson By Bill Cherry, Dallas Broker-Realtor www.billcherrybroker.com www.texasescapes.com It is entirely possible that the real Jean Lafitte never sailed into or had a home in Galveston. But that depends on whose accounting of Lafitte's life you want to believe. The real Jean Lafitte was one of two brothers. Jean was the elder and Pierre was the younger. They were probably born in St. Malos, France in the 1780s. Jean was described as "tall, finely formed, and in his pleasant mood was always agreeable and interesting. He would stand for
