While abbreviated and perhaps, therefore, not precisely accurate: Jews and Christians believe in and worship the same God. A messiah has not delivered the message to Jews that there will be life after death for them in heaven. By contrast, the Christians' messiah, Jesus Christ, has delivered that message and its promise.
So Jews feel that their afterlife, until the heaven matter is reconciled for them, is comprised of their contributions on earth and how they are each personally remembered by those who live and those who come after them.

ponzi: FLORIDA: THE LAND OF THE PONZI SCHEME - 02/12/09 10:05 AM
The last editorial piece (page 81) in the February 9, 2009 "The New Yorker" is titled "The Ponzi Scheme," and it is a commentary and chronicle of the years and years that real estate was the industry and commodity of Florida. It also shows why it has now vaporized.
I checked to see if the magazine had posted that piece by George Packer at their web site so that you could read it without charge, but they hadn't.

ponzi: PONZI SCHEME -- MADOFF, MAYBE, BUT NOT SOCIAL SECURITY SYSTEM - 12/29/08 11:22 PM
Everyone has heard about Bernard Madoff by now. He's the guy who has allegedly run the largest and longest running Ponzi scheme ever. And now his investors, the SEC, and anyone else who wants to either cry because of their losses, or make out like they knew he was a gonif all along, are wondering what will happen now.
What is starting to get on my nerves is this latest "Light Bulb Going Off In the Head Proclamation" that many of the radio and TV pundits and their call-in guests are saying as if it's their original thought. It goes like this:
