Here's a letter I got the other day from V. Lane Rawlins, the president of the University of North Texas, one of my alma maters. I’m posting it here for those of you to see who are in the planning stages of sending your children off to college. My personal college career included, in addition to the University of North Texas, Tulane University, Washington University and Rice University. North Texas was and remains my favorite. Its main campus is located in Denton, which is about a 30 minute drive from both Dallas and Fort Worth So for you, here’s the scoop

LEON BREEDEN1922 - 2010 Arguably the most noted jazz music educator that a U.S. college or university has ever had was Leon Breeden. Dr. Breeden passed away from natural causes at Southwest Medical Center in Dallas about 3:30 PM on August 11, 2010. SCHOLARSHIP LICENSE PLATES $30 EXTRA In recent years, the costs to attend Texas colleges and universities have increased demonstratively. Most educators say that's because the state stopped mandating the cost of tuition and began allowing the schools to set them. Prior to that, at least taxpayers in Texas thought it was important to keep costs low, so that any resident with the educational prerequisites could somehow manage to finance his higher education. The University of North Texas began as North Texas Normal College. A normal college was the name given colleges that primarily educated students to be public school teachers. And normal colleges, for whatever the reasons, were second rate citizens among colleges and universities. Oft times their classroom credits wouldn't even transfer to a new college should a student move, say, from North Texas Normal to the University of Texas. Or, if the credits were accepted, they came in as a "C" regardless of what grade the student had earned. Additionally, at least in Texas, the legislature had a history of not giving fairly, much less
