BURN THE SHIPS!! - 04/30/12 04:57 AM
I try to use real life examples when delivering my real estate training and in the classic book The Art of War, Sun Tzu noted that soldiers fight the most ferociously when they believe they're fighting to the death. A good general knows that when attacking an opposing force, it's important to create the illusion of a potential escape route for the enemy, so they won't fight as hard. What escape routes are you keeping open that are causing you to not fight for yourself as hard as you could?
If your goals are important enough to you, start by “burning … (2 comments)

GET UP, GET OVER AND GET ON WITH IT! - 04/27/12 04:55 AM
GO Power

Are you like so many people today, pushing and shoving your way through life trying to achieve some sort of success but aren’t sure what success looks like? Do you tear through each day, each week, and each month without any idea where you are going, without a plan for your life, personally or professionally?

We are all affected by factors that impact our daily lives. These five factors explain why we do what we do each day. The five factors of influence are as follows:

1. Environment: Your physical surroundings, past and present.
2. Events: … (4 comments)

5 simple steps for building affinity on Facebook. - 04/26/12 05:20 AM
Today is Technology Thursday so for our real estate training segment we are going to focus on 5 simple tips for building affinity on Facebook.
Facebook uses the EdgeRank algorithm to determine the posts that should be shown on a user's Top News feed. The algorithm works reasonably similar to Search Engine Optimization. With EdgeRank you have to have a connection with a friend or "liker" in order for your content to even show up in their News Feed. So, what can you do to impact this affinity and raise the chance that your post will show up in others' … (6 comments)

This is the funniest thing I have ever seen!! - 04/25/12 04:52 AM
Today is wacky Wednesday, the day I don’t have to write about real estate training or real estate coaching and instead I try to share unique, unusual and funny stories that make us think or make us laugh.
Today I am going to share my favorite YouTube video of all time. This video has had 104,665,879 views! That’s what we call “going viral to the MAX!” What could be so interesting that over 100 million people would want to see it and share it? If this didn’t make you smile or laugh out loud you need to go back to bed … (8 comments)

Is the expired owner a villain or victim? - 04/24/12 05:26 AM
Today for our Tuesday real estate training series we are going to focus on building our listing inventory by converting the expired listing owners. Even as the market starts to show signs of a rebound, there are still plenty of expired opportunities. Most agents ignore the expired owners because they make the assumption the expired owner is a villain, an unmotivated seller who overpriced their property and it didn’t sell. So, they got what they deserved! The first step in achieving success when working with the expired listing owners is to change the way we see them. In our real estate … (10 comments)

YOU are responsible for your success and happiness. - 04/23/12 05:04 AM
Today is Motivational Monday and our real estate training is focused on responsibility. Do you believe that everything you are or ever will be is up to you? Everything in your life exists because of your behavior, words, and actions. You are responsible for your success and failure, your happiness and unhappiness, your present and future.
One of the many lessons I learned from my father was taking responsibility for my actions. No matter how much trouble I got in, he said the same thing, “You must accept responsibility for your actions.”
That thought is scary and exhilarating at the same time. It's … (8 comments)

Is This The World's Smallest Dog? - 04/18/12 04:51 AM
It’s Wacky Wednesday and instead of focusing on real estate training or motivation we like to focus on the strange and unusual. This week there was an announcement of the birth of a tiny Dachshund puppy’s birth that is sparking debate on whether it should be crowned the World’s Smallest Dog. Weighing in at an impressive 1 ounce, the little tike could fit into a spoon when it was born! Beyonce was born in northern California’s Grace Foundation Animal Shelter and since then, she is about the size of a business card and can sleep soundly on top of a cell … (12 comments)

Do you love your job? - 04/17/12 04:46 AM
Do you love your job? Tuesday is our day for focusing on real estate training and I want to ask you an important question: Do you see real estate as something you have to do or something you get to do?
The answers to these questions will play an important part in determining the level of success you achieve in this business. Are you a bouncer or a splatter? - 04/16/12 05:35 AM
Real estate and in fact life is full of failures, rejection and more than a fair share of discouragement. In my real estate training I hear people moaning about how hard their life is I am always tempted to ask them, "Compared to what?" I believe that the difference in how persistent people are often comes down to how they handle the discouragement that comes from the same situation. While some people can immediately brush themselves off, others can enter a negative cycle of thoughts that persists for weeks, months or even years. I believe there are two types of people in … (4 comments)

Winning the Battle Against Writer's Block One Photo At a Time. - 04/13/12 05:01 AM
Winning the Battle Against Writer's Block One Photo At A Time I start every day writing my daily blog, and I have to admit I frequently became a victim of writer's block. Of course, it usually strikes on those days I have an impossible schedule with more to do than time to do it. When I feel “blocked” I try reading books, and magazines, listening to motivational messages, listening to my favorite music on Pandora, and even meditating but sometimes nothing seems to work to dislodge my block. I have to admit the stress of not being able to write takes … (2 comments)

What is website optimization and why is so important to having a robust website? - 04/12/12 05:00 AM
What is website optimization and why is so important to having a robust website? It’s no longer enough just to have a website, you’ve got to have a website that drives traffic and captures leads. To do this effectively you must have a plan for website optimization. When we are talking about website optimization we are really talking about two things. One, your website has to be optimized internally. A website may look beautiful from the outside, but if the inside is poorly built, chances are it will affect the performance of the site. If your website is not coded properly, … (42 comments)

Mow the lawn and keep the land!! - 04/11/12 05:06 AM
Mow the lawn and keep the land!As you know Wednesdays is our day for wacky stories. Today's is a good wacky story! Folks in Sandusky, Ohio are taking advantage of a new city-wide plan aimed at improving neighborhoods and putting money back in the city. They’re calling it, “Mow it to own it.” All that’s needed to take advantage are two things: a vacant lot on the left or right of your home, and the will to maintain it. If that’s the case, the city of Sandusky says it’s all yours! On average, each lot costs the city a total of … (4 comments)

What business are you in? - 04/10/12 05:08 AM
Why is it that some people seem to feel that “prospecting” is a dirty word?
I define “prospecting” as necessary work that allows us to find the people who have a need to buy or sell real estate. Isn't that our business? Finding people with a need and satisfying that need?
A problem occurs when people think of prospecting as painful or uncomfortable. Does prospecting necessarily have to be painful? No, of course not. In fact, a major key to success in real estate is to learn to enjoy prospecting activities AND to enjoy working hard at it.
Why is prospecting … (10 comments)

Think you can or think you can't? - 04/09/12 04:52 AM
Do you believe in yourself? Do you realize that success is not governed by color, creed, age or orientation: Success does not discriminate nor does it know boundaries. It does however depend upon dreams, persistence and self-belief. The moment you lose confidence in yourself, failure will follow.
Each of us, irrespective of means or circumstance, strives for some aspect of greatness in our lives. Each of us is a genius in some aspect of our existence. There are things I can do brilliantly, which others cannot. Similarly, there are things which others can do that I can’t. These are the things … (7 comments)

Do you find yourself butting your head against the wall of success? Are you caught in a revolving door going around and around? When you look at where you are in life, do you think you should be further ahead?
There are days when I, too, am frustrated. I feel like I am spinning my wheels of success in one place.
Well, unlike many who are too busy trying to make a living instead of designing a life, I took the time to examine what I might be doing wrong. And my findings are really astonishing. I discovered that … (5 comments)

Cast your vote for the annual Stella Award winner! - 04/04/12 04:46 AM
It’s time again for the annual ‘Stella Awards’!
For those unfamiliar with these awards, they are named after 81-year-old Stella Liebeck who spilled hot coffee on herself and successfully sued the McDonald’s in New Mexico where she purchased the coffee. You remember, she took the lid off the coffee and put it between her knees while she was driving. Who would ever think one could get burned doing that, right? That’s right; these are awards for the most outlandish lawsuits and verdicts in the U.S. You know, the kinds of cases that make you scratch your head. So keep your head … (10 comments)

Do you see obstacles or opportunities? - 04/03/12 05:48 AM
Are you focused on the opportunities available to you or the obstacles you think are standing in your way? How you see your life and the challenges you face each day determines rather you see opportunities or obstacles. Two men traveled the same path. They walked through forests, rivers, mountains and deserts. They encountered many dangers on their journey. In the forest they were hunted and attacked by wolves. While crossing a river they nearly drowned. In the mountains they were pummeled by furious storms, and more than once, death looked like a reward. In the desert the sun plagued them … (12 comments)
