mount vernon: Most Secure Places to Live in the U.S. - 12/17/10 02:14 PM
Hey Everybody!
According to a Farmers Insurance Group of Companies seventh annual Most Secure Places to Live survey released December 17, 2010, our little town of Mount Vernon, Washington is the 17th safest Small Town in America (fewer than 150,000 residents).  Yee Ha!
Also, Bellingham did very well in the rankings for Mid-Size Cities (150,000 to 500,000 residents).  Bellingham is the 3rd safest Mid-Size City in America.  Again, Yee Ha!

mount vernon: Skagit County Median Home Prices Are Holding Steady in 2010 - 11/05/10 06:19 PM
Skagit County Median Home Prices Are Holding Steady in 2010.
We keep hearing on the news about all the doom and gloom about the economy and falling home prices that the media can muster. However; here in Skagit County it just ain't so!
The economic report for October 2010 showed that America gained 151,000 jobs. This was more than double the predicted gain according to Reuters. Woohoo!
Reviewing the statistics from the Northwest Multiple Listing Service (NWMLS) Monthly Recaps from January through October 2010 shows that the median home prices are holding steady in 2010. Woohoo!!
We've got a long way … (0 comments)

mount vernon: A Housing Shortage in Skagit County? - 08/27/08 10:22 PM
Since President Bush signed the Housing Bill on July 30th, I've experienced a huge surge in business!  I was curious to see if it was simply me having some good results, or if there has been a shift in the market.  I ran a search of homes for sale in Mt. Vernon, Burlington, and Sedro Woolley priced under $300,000.  There are currently 422 Active listings in the Northwest Multiple Listing Service (NWMLS).  There are an additional 101 homes that have Contingent/Pending transactions on them.  That is a very healthy number!  It indicates that a Seller's Market is on the way!  A … (2 comments)

mount vernon: The press is catching on.... The market has hit bottom! - 08/27/08 04:18 PM
I just watched the video below reported by Conway Gittens of the Reuters news agency. The real estate market nationwide had a nice rebound in July, offering hope that the worst is over!Consumer confidence showed a sharp rebound as well...Enjoy the video!

I've been experiencing a solid resurgence of business since President Bush signed the Housing Bill at the end of July. The inventory of homes priced under $300,000 in Mount Vernon, Burlington & Sedro Woolley is down to a 4 month supply of homes, suggesting a Seller's Market... Thats right, I said a Seller's Market.Believe it.... It is coming.

mount vernon: Foreclosure Hype and Nonsense… - 08/18/08 12:58 AM
It seems that the only real estate news making headlines these days is about foreclosures and how much that rate has increased in a large chunk of the country.
I'm primarily concerned about what happens here... Here in Washington and more specifically here in Skagit County.  The typical news story these days describes the turmoil of Nevada, California, Florida, and Arizona... These are the States with the worst foreclosure rates in the country.  In Washington State, the reality is far better... See for yourself:
As you can see, the news in Nevada, California, etc... is pretty bad, but Washington State has … (8 comments)

The signs are all over the place. The housing market has hit the bottom and is due to spring up in the next couple months. Here are the basic facts:- Home sales contracts rose in June. Click here for the Reuters story- The $300 Billion Housing Bailout Bill has been signed into law. Click here for the Reuters Video- The gas prices we've all felt the pain from have caused the cost of home building materials to raise sharply. Home builders will have to charge more for new homes in the coming months. If they don't (or are not able to get … (6 comments)

mount vernon: Is Skagit County Prepared for a Flood or an Earthquake? - 01/01/08 03:47 PM
In 2007 Washington was pounded pretty hard with rain.... There was devistating flooding in Southern Washington that destroyed a lot of homes and closed I-5 for days.In 2006 Washington was pounded pretty hard by wind storms... I remember that at one point, over a million people were without power.Fortunately Skagit County was let off pretty easy by mother nature in both of these storms. Skagit County had damage, but we were not devistated by the storms like other areas were.... In short, we were lucky! What will we face in 2008??Skagit Count Commissioner Sharon Dillon, District 3 wrote a very good article … (0 comments)
