The Deadline Has Passed - 10/31/06 07:15 AM
Jim Cronin at The Real Estate Tomato has posted the Halloween Carnival of Scary Real Estate Stories.  I would suggest that everyone pour a large mug of pumpkin juice, put the Harry Potter soundtrack on the stereo, then spend some time reading all of the stories.  That'll surely get you ready for the ghosts and goblins later tonight.  There are some great stories and songs included in the carnival.  What a great idea.
By the way, I was so excited to see my open house story included!  Thank you Jim.  I'll wear my T-shirt at my next open house.

More Idaho Potato Nonsense - 10/30/06 09:04 PM
Earlier today, Lance & Elaine Wells posted about our big Idaho potatoes.  Reminded me of a couple postcards I had sitting around.
Grandpa grew 'em big...

Real Women Wear Aprons - 10/30/06 06:58 PM

A number of years ago, my wife made a pattern from one of her Grandmother's aprons, and she made a bunch of them for Christmas gifts for all of her friends.  We made a tag out of the picture you see, wrote "Real women wear aprons" on it, and used it for the gift tags.  These touched a lot of people that year.  Recently, one of her friends returned the favor, by sending her the following short piece, and we wanted to share it with you all.

I don't think our kids know what an apron is.

Boise Market Update - 10/25/06 10:47 AM
Here is a quick look at the Boise real estate market for the last week of October.  These numbers are for single family homes and single family with acreage, no condos, no townhomes:
Ada County
current actives                 4638last year October actives   1533solds Oct 1 to Oct 24         535current pending                 961Canyon County
current actives                 2155last year October actives    682solds Oct 1 to Oct 24         271current pending                 692The market is a little hard to read right now... it seems as if everyone is in the mountains hunting.  Inventory seems to be leveling out now, and there are still a lot of buyers out looking at homes.  I … (0 comments)

A Note to my New Buyers About Loans - 10/23/06 10:44 AM
You’ve read and heard a lot lately about foreclosures going up, and people getting trapped in their ARMS, “exotic” mortgage products, and interest rates going up, or not being as “good” as they were awhile back.  These things may even be one of the reasons you have waited to buy a home.  There is no question that mortgage financing can be a confusing, perhaps even frightening part of the home buying process, and it has slowed down more than one new buyer.  But that needn’t be the case for you.
The first thing to remember about home financing is that it is … (0 comments)

My Scariest Real Estate Story - 10/17/06 09:35 PM
My scariest real estate story just happened to take place in late October.  I was sitting an Open House in a new subdivision, but I was the only agent in the sub that day.  We had had fairly steady traffic most of the day, mostly young families looking for "oh my gosh, we need a bigger house" style homes.  The home I had open was a perfect example of the style, and built by one of the name builders in town.  I remember early in the afternoon, I was answering questions for a really nice couple with two kids in tow.  … (20 comments)

Haunted MLS - 10/17/06 08:20 AM
We can't always be working, without having a little fun along the way.
Here is a website that I wanted to share with everyone, in keeping with the season.
Think of it as sort of the MLS for haunted houses...
Now, all we need is a directory of scarey real estate agents

Zillow My Home Sweet Home? - 10/13/06 08:53 AM
For the past week I have been taking a couple of classes required for a GRI designation (Graduate Realtor Institute).  It has been a fun week, and we covered all sorts of exciting topics, including Ethics, Fair housing, Taxation... you know, the good stuff.  Along the way we touched on a number of other subjects related to various areas of real estate, and some of the local differences.  I enjoyed it alot, and met a number of Realtors from other areas of Idaho.
The subject of Zillow came up during one of the sessions (no link, they don't need my link).  We … (1 comments)

Pending Sales Higher - 10/07/06 10:42 AM
I was reading a short article on REALTOR.org about the Pending Home Sales Index and what it is currently suggesting about home sales numbers in the coming months.  The article implies that home sales might have reached a low in August, and will stabilize in the coming months.  I'm not sure about that myself, but I looked this morning at some simple stats on the Intermountain MLS for September sales.Single family and single family with acreage in Ada County for the month of September show 735 units, which is a bit lower than I what had expected (750-800).  If the final … (0 comments)

Price, Condition, Value - 10/04/06 08:00 PM
Four mornings each week, at 7:30AM, some of the agents in our office get together for a training session/"what's happening in the market" report.  Yes, that's pretty early, and no, not everybody attends.  But I have found it to be a great help and learning tool, because instead of just my own view of our current market, I get the input of many others, on a day by day basis.    The most important thing I am taking away from these meetings is that selling homes in today's market doesn't take a rocket scientist, or a celebrity agent with a huge … (0 comments)
