You would have to live here to understand.  I have lived in Birmingham for over 30 years and I do not ever remember such dry conditions.  My grass has been cut only 2 times this summer.  Dying grass and plants do not enhance the curb appeal of real estate either.  We have been on severe watering restrictions, with our rainfall for Birmingham over 21 inches below normal for the year.  There are some areas (Tuscaloosa and Anniston) where conditions are even worse than here.  It has been pouring rain for the last few minutes.  What a wonderful sound it is!  But I am … (4 comments)

Foreclosure in Birmingham Alabama - 08/26/07 05:05 PM
As of today, there are 13,533 active listings in the Greater Birmingham Metropolitan Area.  Of those 842 or just over 6.2%, are foreclosures.      Even more interesting, 378 of 1791, slightly over 21%, of the properties currently under contract are foreclosures.  Does this mean more people are purchasing foreclosures than other properties?  Not necessarily...but they are selling.  Investors are buying them, as are individuals.  Like any other property, some are priced right, and others are not.  Those priced above market value, will be on the market longer than average...buyers expect foreclosures to be a bargain.  If not, they look elsewhere.
