national association of realtors: Home Sales Up in May - 06/27/08 03:23 PM

According to a new report from the National Association of Realtors (NAR), home sales were up in the month of May.
Sales of single family homes, townhomes, condos and co-ops were up 2% nationwide from April to May. However, sales were still 15.9% percent lower than May 2007.
NAR attributes the increase to lower asking prices on homes. The median sale price nationwide was $208,600, down 6.3%, from $222,700 a year ago.
In the Northeast, existing home sales were up nearly 5 percent from April to May, and prices were down only 2.4 percent from a year ago.
