Thawing Out! Many parts of North Georgia, (particularly Ellijay, Blue Ridge and Blairsville) temps were above freezing only three times since New Year's. This week's warm up breaks a string of nights that were in the low teens or even single digit, as low as 3 degrees. Even I have to admit, that's just too darn cold !

Don't forget the camera! The Georgia - Tennessee state line divides the twin cities of McCaysville, GA and Tennessee. You can't miss the blue line painted across Hwy. 60 through the parking lot of the local grocery store. Stand with one foot in Georgia and the other in Tennessee. I purchased the prettiest sofa in a furniture store that was once there. The state line ran through the center of the store. The sofa I purchased was on the Georgia side and the cash register was on the Tennessee side resulting in me paying less sales tax! I got such a kick … (6 comments)

Saturday, November 24 was "Light Up Blue Ridge" which officially kicked off the Christmas season for our town. This annual event started a few years ago and is becoming a mountain tradition, drawing more and more visitors each year to the North Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains. This year's celebration drew more than 7000 visitors! It was a beautiful sunny day but on the cold side.
I was so thankful to get to enjoy this event with my family for the first time this year. My grandchildren had a blast and to see their faces when they saw Santa and Mrs. Claus … (16 comments)

Blairsville Georgia, another great little mountain town that you will find as you travel through the North Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains. Blairsville is located in Union County and is the county seat. The town's elevation is 1883 feet and is the only incorporated community in the county. It was incorporated in December 1835. Blairsville is surrounded by the beautiful mountain ranges known for their blue hue, better known as the Blue Ridge Mountains which are also the Appalachian Mountains. Many of you have been reading my posts about the November 6th election facing Fannin County residents. The resolution to allow liquor by the drink which became a "spirited" (so to speak) issue. This is a follow-up to report the outcome of the election as reported yesterday evening.
As reported by The News Observer, the referendum was defeated 3871 to 3330 votes with 14 out of 14 precincts reporting.
