New York's Capital Region received some great news from Forbes magazine.We are now #4 on their list of Best Cities for Jobs!! What is even more interesting... & exciting... is that this area ranked #245 last year. WOW!  A leap of 241 spots!
Most of the jobs lie, as you may guess, in the technology sector. And another bonus is that they don't lie all within one potential employer. Everyone is anticipating great things with the addition of Global Foundaries, in Malta, but our Schenectady County "mothership", General Electric, is growing by leaps and bounds too. The good news is that there ARE places with higher gas prices than ours! My colleague, Hella Rothwell, in California gives us some good food for thought about the decisions we make both personally & professionally with respect to gas prices. Now don't worry! I'm still availabe to do what I have to do to help make your real estate goals a reality but you might see me WALKING into Dunkin Donuts instead of sitting in the drive-thru!

Time is Ticking for Fun on Feb Break! - 02/25/12 08:23 AM
How can February break possibly be almost over? I've seen many Facebook posts calling for a "re-do". I know I have strugged with carving out some quality time with the kiddies vs. balancing work demands and of course, trying to accomplish something on the homefront too. But alas, there arent' enough hours in the day! At the end of the day -- & vacation -- though, quality family time is what matters. Looking for some family fun in Schenectady County?  Look no further than Union College's athletic deparment. The Dutchmen are truly a gem in our own backyard! Last night's hockey win over Princeton (what a game!!) gave them a first round bye in the upcoming playoffs.

A Priceless Valentine's Gift... - 02/11/12 01:43 PM
To say the least, it was a  very busy week (does anyone ever really admit when their days aren't jammed packed full of must-dos, needs-dos and should- dos though?). We all seem busy and countless conversations can be heard comparing just how busy we are with the next person. But I think that's a topic for another time... During the course of this very full week I was reminded that Valentines Day is quickly approaching.  My January vision of leisurely choosing cards and sending them across our region now falls into my pile "I was gonna"... Now in its place will be emails ( which I'm hoping the very intention is well received!). So with throngs of valentine's hitting countless mailboxes as now  a plan for 2013, I turn my attention to my immediate family. Media gives me all kinds of ideas (& pressure if I chose!) to spend more time and money to find the perfect giftto express my love for others. But I have decided upon the perfect gift. We all want it. We all need it. It's priceless!!!!  What is it? TIME.  It won't be wrapped. It won't be purchased. But it is priceless!  I will commit to no phone, no computer, no phone calls, no emails, no tv time. So after school and work, and before a board meeting, I'm going to take a time out and enjoy the most priceless gift of all... Time with my beloved family (but if you can't wait for my return, please visit www.BrendaMayette.com to start your real estate search!) Believe it or not, all of the recent excitement surrounding the Superbowl (the unofficial National holiday even for this non-football fan!) got me thinking about "shopping" for a new home. It's so easy to get caught up in the "glitz" with any major event... the commercials, the apparel, the yummy food. I see the same thing in some home buyers... "Let's find a house first and then sell", "Oh! The granite! Oh! The stainless steel!", "Look at the pool!
