Montgomery County Maryland approves bag tax
The Montgomery County Council in Maryland voted 8-1 on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 to approve a 5 cent tax for each plastic or paper bag issued at retail check-outs in Montgomery County, MD.
Montgomery County stores will begin charging customers a 5 cent charge to sue plastic or paper shopping bags beginning in January 2012.
Montgomery County will be the first Maryland jurisdiction with such a tax in place. Officials reported they will spend most of the money raised by the tax to buy reusable bags for anyone who wants them and will create … (1 comments)
