architectural photographer: Aperture: A really really simple explanation (I hope) :) - 10/06/08 08:09 PM
It seems like Aperture is one of those things that is perpetually confusing to people (I base this in part because it took me so dang long to feel like I really had a handle on it)!
Of course, it's also one of the most important concepts to understand when

architectural photographer: Dodge and Burn: - 09/10/08 11:33 AM
A ways back I covered the basic process of converting a color digital image into black and white (or similar toned image): B&W Conversion
I've wanted to do a quick follow up for a while now on dodging and burning (oh so useful when combined with B&W photography).
What is Dodging and Burning?

architectural photographer: After Dark - A complete shoot: - 09/06/08 11:25 AM
As photographers we have a bad habit of only showing off only our best shots (I'm just as guilty of this as the next). However, in an effort to give clients a better view of what a complete shoot has to offer them I've started posting select shoots in full

architectural photographer: How do we deal with misinformation on AR? - 08/31/08 02:00 AM
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and respect thereof. However, once in a while I run across a post where the information is at best misleading, at worst just plain wrong.
I bumped into a post in the photography group today that is replete with errors.
What do we do about this?

architectural photographer: Underexposed! - 08/28/08 06:30 PM
One of the fun things about photography is freeing yourself from the constraints 'rules' and just experimenting.
Take a look at the image below.
Would it surprise you if I told you I shot this in broad daylight?
In fact, it was supremely bright outside. I simply underexposed the

architectural photographer: Keeping your digital images organized: - 08/21/08 06:14 PM
One of the truly great things about shooting digitally is the freedom to simply snap away. Of course the downside to all this is you are likely to end up with a a lot of images...and I mean a LOT.
If you are anything like me, you probably have a

architectural photographer: 'Trolby': The worlds fastest spider. - 08/20/08 03:11 AM
If you've read my blog much you'll probably know that I like to photograph spiders. I used to be quite afraid of them as a child, time has passed and the fear has become interest or at least curiosity tinged with a bit of respect. Frankly, they can make quite stunning subjects as

architectural photographer: City Lights at Dusk: - 08/10/08 08:58 PM
If you've been following my blog about dealing with interior light for RE shoots, you might have noticed I'm a big fan of dusk shots. Not only are they quite easy to create but they can be very dramatic as well.
Must dusk shots involve exteriors (focal point house) or

architectural photographer: Macro 101 (warning: spider pic inside): - 05/22/08 05:27 PM
I thought I'd talk a little bit about macro photography today.
Shooting macro is one of my favorite 'recreational' types of photography.
What is macro anyway? Macro is generally defined as a category of lenses which have no reduction factor. In other words, the lens transmits an image to the

architectural photographer: Size Matters: Understanding how sensor size influences focal length - 05/07/08 05:37 PM
I received a question just recently from a member who is upgrading to the Sony SLR. She was wondering if a particular lens was wide enough for shooting interiors.
You might think the answer is as simple as looking at the size of the lens itself, if only that was

architectural photographer: Photography 101: Critical Sharpness: - 08/28/07 10:58 AM
I don't have a lot of time this morning so I unfortunately I don't have example pics to share at the moment (6 shoots booked over the next two days).
Cheryl asked me to talk a little bit about sharpness in images. As usual I'll probably drone on and on

Wow, I have been busy! Really really busy!
First off, thanks to everyone who stopped to write me and say; "Dude, where the heck did you go?". ;)
I've been a victim of my success really, which is to say be careful what you wish for. Actually things have been

I don't have a lot of time these days (sunny weather = my busy season). However I wanted to at least scribble this blog out even if it comes out half baked. I trust my audience will forebear. ;)
By way of introduction (for those of you who I haven't had

Have you stopped by the Photography Group lately? Something amazing is happening.
The the whole dang photography group has blossomed, we've near swamped ourselves with content rich articles!
We now have so many blogs dedicated to building the skills of our fellow AR members that we no longer know quite how

architectural photographer: Cross Posting , Spiders, and Moderators! Oh my! - 03/11/07 04:36 PM
Spiders are remarkable creatures really but they do have a downside. I mean they get into everything. It's really no wonder with all those legs.
They remind me of the cross posting I'm seeing a lot of, here on AR.
What's cross posting you ask? That's when you post your

architectural photographer: Writing a full price offer, but don't know the price? - 02/21/07 05:19 PM
I can't believe how some real estate agents consider themselves professionals, see below:
My Wife (who incidentally is a real estate agent herself) has a 3M+ pre-sale listing in a premier area of Kirkland Washington. It's mixed use space, full commercial floor with a 9 car parking garage below. Top floor is a
