Herzman Mesa is an older community just south of downtown Evergreen along Highway 73. Herzman Mesa is easily recognized as you head south from Evergreen on 73 as the turn off which is South Skyline Drive is right across the street from a fire house and the intersection is anchored by a fenced in mini storage facility.

Cragmont in Evergreen
Cragmont is a mountain community south of Evergreen spanning the mountainside and mountain top between highway 73 (which connects Evergreen with Conifer) and Brook Forest Road. Most of the homes in Cragmont are accessed from highway 73 and include homes in grassy meadows as well as steep mountainside home sites with excellent views. The lower roads in Cragmont are paved but as you climb up Berry Bush to the top the roads are still dirt. Many homes have paved driveways in Cragmont which makes snow removal a little easier.

Evergreen West is the community along Stagecoach Road west of Highway 74 (Evergreen Parkway) and up Witter Gulch Road in Jefferson and Clear Creek Counties. Evergreen Park Estates is located just south of Wilmot elementary school in south Evergreen. Typically these are older homes in a gently rolling mountainside setting although there are quite a few homes in the lower meadows close to Buffalo Park Road.
Many of the hoes are horse properties of an acre or two with some larger sites here and there. There is very little new construction since the community was developed in the 1960's-- most sites have already been built on. However, there are quite a few remodels.

April 18 and I'm writing from my little horse ranch in Conifer at about 8000 feet. We are snowed in! I was able to keep my driveway open for most of yesterday but I eventually got stuck-- even with chains. And now the snow has accumulated to a depth well beyond the capacity of my Ford F350 or it's captain.

I've blogged in the past about Denver and the Denver metro being ranked among the best places to live. This is not only my opinion but now a certifiable fact. It turns out that when most people are realizing that the grass is greener elsewhere—they’re thinking about Denver, and they’re right, but probably really picturing Evergreen!
