As a Marine Mom whose son is about to be deployed to the Mediterranean, I recently was sent this link and wanted to pass it on to everyone. Have you ever seen one of our military walking past you and wanted to convey to them your thanks, but weren't sure how or it felt awkward? EMPTY BOWLS EVENT Now is the time to purchase your tickets for the upcoming Empty Bowls event. Tickets usually sell out fast, so don't put it off! Empty Bowls, a fund raising event for local food banks, is coordinated by our Resident Artist in Clay County NC, Mike Lalone. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased from our Craft Shop, United Community Bank in Hayesville, and the Chamber of Commerce in Murphy. On January 4, 2011 Tri-County Early College(TCEC) located in Murphy NC handed out new Apple IPads to all of their Sophomore, Juniors and Seniors students, which my son was one of them. They are the first school in North Carolina to actually implement this Apple IPad program. The major goal of this Apple IPad initiative is to increase student access to the most current technologies, to decrease the number of textbooks required by student and to graduate students who are prepared to compete academically and professionally in the global community. As a Marine Corp Mom, I was honored to help decorate the Marine Corp League float in the annual Murphy NC Christmas Parade on December 4th. This year's theme was "Hometown Christmas" and the 48 foot float had a banner hanging from the side that said "I'll Be Home Christmas, If Only In My Dreams". The float displayed a living room setting with mother and father sitting on rocking chairs in front of the fireplace. A Marine dressed in his Dress Blues was standing by the front door about to enter the room. (0 comments)

On Sunday November 21st Dan Miller a resident of Murphy NC came home from Afghanistan where he was for the past 18 months. The town came out and welcomed him home...
Dan Miller, a Marine Scout Dog Handlerin Vietnam has been attached to the Third Battalion, First Marine Division for the past 2 years. Dan has been in Afghanistan teaching dogs and their handlers how to track and disarm IEDs. Dan is a member of the Marine Corp League in Murphy NC. Dan was not only greeted by his friends, family and supporters....His dog Valor was also waiting... (2 comments)
The Stucco Coffee House is located at 324 Hill St in Murphy North Carolina. This was an old home that Joanna Kraus the owner completely remodeled and turned into a quaint Internet Cafe.
