moving: How to Set Up a Moving Box - 01/29/12 02:20 PM
How To Set Up a Moving Box Moving is never fun it is much easier if you how to set up a moving box correctly.
Many people mistakenly believe the tabs at the top of the moving boxes are used to keep the boxes flat during transport. They may help to keep the boxes neat and tidy during transport but that is not the real reason they exist. They are really there to keep the flaps out of the way while you pack the boxes. Let me demonstrate:

moving: Enhance Your Preferred Vendor List - 01/14/12 04:13 PM
So I've done a little spying on you Realtors out there and saw a couple of important ommissions from your preferred vendor lists. Now, I'll admit it was not an exhaustive search but here are a couple of things I found missing from EVERY list:
1. Charitable organizations. Find out which charitable organizations in your neighborhood provide free pick-up for donated items. Don't forget to ask what kind of items they accept and include that in your listing as well. Donating items is a win/win situation: non-profits benefit from items your clients don't want and your clients get a nice tax … (2 comments)

moving: Are YOU this Realtor? If so, shame on you! - 01/10/12 11:16 AM
I recently assisted a sweet warm wonderful elderly woman to relocate and was very sad to hear of the experience she had with her Realtor. Because her home had not sold, she was forced to take out a loan in order to be able to move into the senior community she very much needed to be living in.
Now, in all fairness, she owns a higher end home in a declining city. Crime has become an issue in that town. And there is never a guarantee that a home will sell in the desired time frame but..
The realtor didn't want … (3 comments)

moving: Top 5 Reasons To Reach Out To a Move Manager in Your Hood. (What? You've never heard of a move manager?) - 01/09/12 05:46 PM
Well, that's because we are about as well known as home stagers were 15 years ago and we still don't have any flashy TV shows to help promote what we do.
Our job decription changes slightly from business to business but, in short, here's what we do: we take the stress out of moving for your clients. Most of us specialize in working with older adults who are looking to rightsize their lives. After living in a space for 30, 40 or 50+ years, the thought of moving can be overwhelming. For many of our clients, it is physically or even … (4 comments)

moving: Top 5 Mistakes People Make When Moving (that Movers Won't Tell You!) - 01/06/12 11:33 AM
PROFESSIONAL MOVERS PROBABLY WON'T TELL YOU THESE THINGS because your mistakes make them money or because they don't even think about it but, in my experience as a move manager, these are the most common mistakes I encounter with my clients.
(“Home A” refers to the home where the packing takes place – or the “front end” of the move. “Home B” refers to the home where the unpacking takes place – or the “back end” of the move.)

1. “Since I’ve already paid for it, I might as well bring it.”
This is the attitude most people have toward … (3 comments)

moving: Moving Tips - 04/22/09 02:40 PM

In case you don't already have enough on your mind when planning a move, here are a few more thoughts to consider when planning your moving date and choosing a moving company.
First of all, remember that loading up the truck usually is NOT the last thing you have to do in your old home. Often you need to get your charitable donations picked up, junk removed or, at the very least, a cleaning crew into the home so it is left in "broom clean" condition. So be sure to leave a little time between the moving van pulling out … (16 comments)
