Even though it snowed in Olathe this past weekend, it is officially spring! That means fresh herbs, colorful flowers and fresh produce will be offered for sale at the local Farmers Markets. Farmers Markets are great ways to get fresh produce at reasonable prices. This summer there are farmers markets all over the Kansas City area and on different days of the week. Olathe Changes Recycling Program - Olathe Real Estate Agent - 03/19/09 11:21 AM

Later this spring Olathe will be changing their current curbside recycling program to what they are calling single stream recycling. Currently, solid waste drivers hand sort recycled materials at the curb, but with the new system the sorting is done at the recycling facility. According to the city of Olathe website, the new program will be more efficient allowing for significant cost savings in fuel, overtime and equipment.

At the event, homeowners will schedule and appointment with HomeFree-USA, a nonprofit organization that offers federally approved counseling on homeownership. Counselors will help homeowners assess their situation, prepare a budget, contact their lender and seek a mortgage modification.

Forbes Traveler just released their new list "America's 30 Most Visited Cities" and Kansas City came in at #27.
Los Angeles, California with 58.6 million visitors was on top, but followed closely with New York, Chicago, Orlando and Las Vegas and across the state, St. Louis came in with 20.3

Quiet Trains In Olathe Kansas? - 03/03/09 07:57 PM
Olathe chugs forward with the Downtown Quiet Zone project on the railroad tracks running through the city. The project calls for installing additional safety modifications at rail crossings, so that trains will no longer be required to sound horns while passing through the area.
The project includes installing new center medians on Woodland, Harold, Mulberry, Loula and Dennis Streets that would prevent vehicles from driving around lowered gates. In addition, four quadrant gates that completely block vehicles when lowered are planned for Santa Fe, Park and Elm Streets. Cedar, Poplar and Prairie crossing are set to be closed.
