Shining a spotlight on my own professional shortcomings is, at first, about as pleasant as a lengthy dental appointment. It's like my old high school job of checking groceries, where every January the store manager would sit me down for a performance review. I'd go in all nervous, certain I would be turning in my badge for some unknown offense. "You're doin' good, Pounds. But...," is how he would start, and then he'd give me critiques, some constructive and some not, that would inevitably help me be a better employee.

CASA (or Court Appointed Special Advocate, sometimes called Guardian Ad Litem) is a special role where basically a volunteer becomes the eyes and ears for a judge in a CPS case. You're a resource, a role model, a researcher. Here's a more thorough explanation from the CASA of Travis County website:

CASA(Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Travis County exists to promote and protect the best interest of children who have been abused or neglected, by training volunteers to advocate for them in courts, in schools and in our community to help them find safe, permanent and loving homes."

realtor in austin: Buyer traffic is up for me - even in the off-season. Is this a sign of a strong 2011? - 11/14/10 12:35 PM
We got more rain in Austin this year than in recent memory.  But man was it a dry summer when it comes to home buyer traffic! The tax-credit hangover persisted through the summer and into the traditionally dead month of September, causing more than one agent friend of mine to throw in the towel and head for the greener pastures of accounting and the like.
