As real estate advertising increasingly shifts online, so does the number of online venues/websites where listings can be advertised. Traditionally, the classifieds were the place where most realtors spent their print ad dollars--and some continue to use this media. Now, however, there are literally thousands of classified ad websites that accept real estate ads, and many times ads can be posted for free.
For a little background about the direction of internet classifieds, there is a transcript of a fascinating interview with Craig Donato, founder of the online classified company Oodle, at http://www.marketingpilgrim.com/2006/01/oodles-craig-donato-discusses-future.html. As he puts it, online classifieds are no longer "a sleepy backwater on the Internet."
Here is a short list of some of the major internet classifieds (most work similar to search engines):
Craigslist
Oodle
GoogleBase
Trulia
Lycos
AdPost
BackPage
Geebo
LiveDeal
EPage
DomesticSale
Obviously, some of these will prove more worthwhile than others. And, some offer services (often for a fee) whereby they will auto submit one post to other classified websites.
For those who have used these or other internet classifieds, please let us know how it went. For those who haven't, maybe it's time to start posting.
