travel: Brodhead Airport - a local hidden gem - 05/18/09 11:04 AM
We made it over to the EAA Chapter 431 pancake breakfast at the Brodhead airfield on Sunday. If you didn't, go ahead and get out your calendar to mark it right now for next year's event. The breakfast of pancakes, sausages, eggs and juice was $6 for adults, and the food was very good. Some pancake breakfasts aren't so great anymore, but this is one of the good ones. The people manning the griddles even made up some Mickey Mouse pancakes for the kids, much to their delight. There were small planes landing and taking off all morning. It was interesting … (3 comments)

travel: Green County Wisconsin Tasting Tour #2 - 04/26/09 09:16 AM
This blog is called Cheese Country Realtors.  If you are curious as to why I would name my blog this, come down to Green County and try our Tasting Tour #2.
Green County is home to many dairy farms, and we make a great deal with the cow's milk produced here.
Tasting Tour #2 will feature these dairy products.  Cheese is our most famous product, but we also are home to one of only three homestead, artisan yogurt companies in the state.
Begin your day in Monroe. The Historic Cheesemaking Center is located just off Hwy 69, and it is … (0 comments)

travel: Midwest Living - "Surprisingly Hip Small Towns" include Monroe, WI and Monticello, WI - 03/07/09 10:42 AM
The new travel trends are apparently shorter trips closer to home; wanting to see real communities, not just tourist venues; and focusing on food. Southwest Wisconsin fits this description beautifully, and area communities are featured in the section "Surprisingly Hip Small Towns"of "The New Vacation" in the latest issue of Midwest Living. Support independent businesses and artistic communities. Eat local. Go green. These are all things we have been doing in the area for a long time, and the article recognizes that travel tastes are catching up with us. Both Monroe and Monticello are mentioned in the article, along with area … (1 comments)

travel: Seasons Change - 11/05/08 02:35 PM
According to the weatherman, we do not have too much longer to enjoy fall weather here in Green County.  If you are thinking of sneaking in a few final fall hikes, the leaves are superbly crunchable right now.
Visit one of our Wisconsin State Parks for an enjoyable afternoon outside.  Cadiz Springs State Recreation Area, New Glarus Woods State Park and Yellowstone Lake State Park all have hiking trails for any ability.
This season showcases the beauty of the mums and the sedums. Winter seems to be overtaking fall later each year. While we know these sunny and warm days are … (4 comments)

travel: Cheese Days in Monroe, WI - 09/15/08 11:13 AM
Every other year, Monroe is home to the oldest food festival in the Midwest. I don't call this blog "Cheese Country Realtor" for nothing. The area around Monroe is dotted with cheese factories, and this coming weekend, September 19-21, is their time to shine.
The Square will be filled with festival attractions. The popular Cheese Tasting Tent is always the big draw on the west side. The south side of the Square is home to the stage and the ever popular Optimist's Cheese Curds stand. Get in line early for your cheese curds tickets, and remember to bring your patio chair … (0 comments)

travel: What is that up in the sky? - 06/12/08 01:04 PM
It is time again for one of the most interesting Monroe area traditions - the annual hot air balloon rally. The four day event runs from June 12 through June 15 this year.
Twice a day, weather permitting, the majestic hot air balloons float through the sky on their way towards the fairgrounds. They seems to brush the tops of the trees and houses as they are steered towards the landing targets. Those of us on the ground can sit on our porches, watch for our favorites and listen to the whoosh of the torches. Up to ten balloons will launch … (0 comments)

travel: Deli-ghtful Dining - 06/02/08 11:26 AM
If you are looking for a place for a quick yet satisfying lunch, skip the fast food. Visit to Monroe's Downtown Square and the Garden Deli.
The Garden Deli is the perfect spot to grab a quick bite to eat. It takes no longer than the chain fast food joints, yet the food is a world apart. Sandwiches are made to order from fresh ingredients. I am big fan of the turkey with spinach and provolone on whole wheat. They also offer white buns, sourdough, french and croissants for bread choices. Get the sandwiches hot or cold, whatever trips your trigger. … (3 comments)
